Tried watching on VHI and finally said screw it. Lots of talking by insipid MTV/VHI hosts followed by brief cut-ins to the music then back to some stupid 5 minute interview (Jimmy Fallon was just on talking about how cool the Coldplay/Richard Ashcroft set was, of course VHI showed only about 15 seconds of it.) So far, it's been a total waste of time.

Are these streams really live on AOL music?? If so, this is very cool. I want to be in Paris now! Shakira and Muse!

Seeing Sway and that hot VH1 chick dancing to Destiny's Child was enough to make me turn off the TV and turn on the computer. Good, lord...I need to go outside.

I'd rip on U2 but now even ripping on U2 has been overdone...

Now I'll never be able to listen to "Drive" by the Cars again...

I just caught some of the Canadian concert. Yikes. Simple Plan's inane yelping was bad enough, but Deep Purple doing a basement hack band version of "Smoke On The Water" seemed like cruel comedy. I'm glad that shit's going on 2,000 miles away so us west coast denizens don't have to take any responsibility for it.

In case it hasn't been posted, you can pick up the live feeds at http://music.aol.com/live_8_concert/live_now (select medium on speed, seems to work best)

As much as it pains me to say, AOL is doing a great job while MTV/VHI is sucking teet.

It never fails to amaze me how awful Chester Bennington is. Even Jay couldn't make him bearable.

Green Day is doing We Are The Champions without a hint of irony.

Nihlism is dead.

Poor materially, but wealthy in creativity and spirit. We could learn how to live from them. [/pretentious undergrad in two hundred level sociology]

When I watch TV and see those poor starving kids all over the world, I can't help but cry. I mean, I'd love to be skinny like that, but not with all those flies and death and stuff.

There's a stunning dearth of actual singing, like in tune, and playing, like competently, in these particular performances today.

I don't know which is worse, an aging Stevie Wonder singing off-key or MTV cuttting away to idiot announcers during Stevie. He's still Stevie even if he wasn't very good.

Stevie Wonder was remarkable as a little kid, because he was so good for, well, a little kid.

He's pretty damned stupid for a grown up.

"What The Fuss" might the be the stupidest thing I've heard in about five years, except, perhaps, for the Nancy Pelosi letters that Gar keeps posting.

Yeah, everyone I've seen either whole performances of clips of sounded awful. They must have the worst sound system/engineers working this damn thing known to man.

And it's hilarious how the crowds are just so unresponsive to so many performers(Madonna, Mariah Carey for example). Hell, even The Who sounded kinda crappy.

I finally had to turn it off. I'm home sick in bed and it literally made my stomach feel worse then it already did.

i had a really solid corn dog, not bad cheese fries, and picked up a terrible t-shirt for $5 that i latered realized was only sort of a Live 8 shirt.

Pink Floyd sounded great, and Roger Waters looke like he was having a blast.
