I was amazed at how it sounded. I mean it really was really a departure from what I was expecting. The entire band was singing the chorus, which threw me off a bit. At first I thought this might have been a result of signing to Vagrant or soemthing, but the guys in the band flatly denied having anyone from the label do anything to change their sound. there was one song I was sure Craig wasn't even singing. Wait, I was sure that it was Craig, but he was singing and not doing his usual thing. I'm really curious to hear the finished product.

i'd recommend buying the lifter/puller (craig's old band) album over anything The Hold Steady has released. Their are some clever lyrics on The Hold Steady records but I can't shake the feeling that musically they're just a decent bar band.

I will however second their live show. Definitely a good time. Although ironically sometimes during their show I'll be totally digging what the band is doing and Craig will bust out with some weird slam poetry style gesturing that makes me want to punch him in the neck.

I have to say the new song is really not doing it for me. at all.

i'm still fucking pissed i missed them when they opened for les savy fav due to a friend's consistent tardiness.

but they're coming back to la soon so i am determined to make it to that show.
