see but i really did think i would still like at least that song. i think i'm still down with "would?" maybe. it's amazing how much your perspectives can change once you stop caring.

Do you think it's your perspectives changing or your preferences? For me, it's fine for what it's worth, but I have changed in many ways since I was 17. It's not so much that I dislike it now, but it doesn't necessarily correspond to my same mindset. Does bring back some fun memories, though.

Well I guess you've got plenty to pick from, but...

What's wrong with "Galaxie" by Blind Melon?

Also, mostly "hits":

Ben Folds Five - "Battle of Who Could Care Less"
Black Crowes - "Remedy" (I'm not sure if I can still stand this song. It's been a while.)
Porno for Pyros - "Pets"
Nine Inch Nails - "Closer"

for Pearl Jam, what about "Hail, Hail" or "Corduroy"?

Alice in Chains - definitely "You Got Me Wrong" or "Would?", though you probably don't want this to devolve into a grunge mix

Agreed. I think they were the best of all the "grunge" bands. "Rooster" is one of the greatest songs ever of all time in the history of the universe. I mean, they SPIT on Jerry Cantrell's dad when he came home from 'Nam...DUDE!!!

Better Than Ezra, Our Lady Peace, Blind Melon, The Wallflowers, Presidents of the United States of America....

This thread holds many bands/songs that made me happy in high school. Now I've got to go listen to some of them...

a quick mp3 search yielded the following modern rock radio gems that you may or may not remember:

quicksand - 'thorn in my side'
faith no more - 'digging the grave'
black lab - 'wash it away'
the cardigans - 'erase/rewind'
corrosion of conformity - 'clean my wounds'
cracker - 'i hate my generation'
eels - 'novocaine for the soul'
anything off everclear's "so much for the afterglow"
fear of pop - 'in love' (i enjoy the remix much more than the lp version)
fountains of wayne - 'sink to the bottom'
green jelly - 'the three little pigs' which only really existed for its video
hum - 'stars'
imperial teen - 'yoo hoo'
the rentals - 'friends of p'
kula shaker - 'hey dude'
monster magnet - 'negasonic teenage warhead'
nerf herder - 'van halen'
the sheila devine - 'hum' (who?)
sponge - 'wax ecstatic'
summercamp - 'drawer'
most our lady peace songs, especially 'naveed', 'starseed', and 'superman's dead'

oh who am i kidding - these aren't guilty pleasures they're just great. shit, music was so good when i was in middle school.

oops! i wrote that? sorry. whattya think about ending the cd with Hanson's "Mmmbop" ? i like the song, and it somewhat fits the "mainstream radio" theme but i don't know if it rocks enough...

What about Tracy Bonham's Mother Mother? Or The Bloodhound Gang's Water Fire Burn (Is that what it's called)?

James - "Laid" (although they're a great fucking band, this was a popular tune)
New Radicals - "You Get What You Give"
