One time I saw a guy who kinda looked like The Edge. But he was driving a tractor.

My high school produced a lot of famous college and pro football players. And I believe a guy I went to high school with is the general manager of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, though, I don't know if that's true anymore.

Rich McKay? He was GM of the Bucs for a good while and now works for the Falcons. I'm guessing you guys could be a bout the same age.

I've told this story before but here goes.

My mum was wittering on at me about something or other. You know how they are...the price of mince...Mrs Bowman's daughter....new shop opening...fascinating.....you just kind of blot it out as background noise don't you?

Well that's what I did and after about ten minutes of her blahing and me thinking about something else I sort of retuned into to the conversation and I swear on my life this is what I heard.

".....I'd left my shoes in Marc Bolan's dressing room and I had to walk home in bare feet!"

That's what she said. I've never asked her about it again because I kinda like NOT knowing what happened before that.

I'm calling your house and asking for your mum. We need to talk. I'm doing it for Charli's sake -- these things are important!

I once got completely shitfaced with Mike Mills and Ken Stringfellow in Athens at a late night party right before REM's Up tour.

I watched both of them suck the toes of this one girl at the same time.

I know the Governor of Kansas well enough to be able to call her.

More on Rich McKay, Tania:

He graduated from Jesuit High School in Tampa, but he definitely attended high school in LA because his dad was the head coach at USC. Is this the guy?

Oh, yeah, Mills was an animal. Probably still is. One of the great un-sung Mongers of our time... a sleeper, if you will.

Wow, he's not aged well. He looks like a cadaver! That's him, though, Richie McKay. His older brother, JK McKay, was fairly famous at USC along with Pat Haden, who I believe both went on to play for the then Los Angeles Rams.

(Btw, in case you were wondering, my former HS = Bishop Amat.)

HA! Absolutley. I mean this happened like 4-5 years ago and this chick was 19 or 20. They both left this party and he openly said to this chick "baby I'd love to knock the boots with you but I've got to be up early for the tour tomorrow". MONGER!! This was at 5am.

Another unsung animal around Athens is Dave Schools from Widespread Panic. I've seen that guy around town trashed sporting huge, baggy shorts, a terrible mass-produced tie dye t-shirt, and tevas with white tube socks. A man who has simply given up on fashion. Yet he had about 3 nubile minxes in tow.

Call him and get us Falcs Tix, T!!!

Actually, my gf's friend is one of Mr. Blank's Accountants, so like, there's that.

I know a gang of former football players. Heath Shuler's # is in my cellphone (he's gonna wish it weren't after GA/TN this year!) Corey Phillips (former UGA QB) is a dude I have tailgated with and will again. Very nice guy and has a whoopfest for a tailgate as well...and I knew Bubba Sparxxx when he was called "L'il Devil" and I used to kick it with him and Big Hern (who was an O Lineman at UGA and is often trotted out on highlight shows for issuing the worst cut block in NFL History while with the Broncs -- wish I still was in touch with these dudes)

I also know or have met MANY politicians, big time celeb fundraisers and peopel famous in political circles.

Contrast that with Stipe... I used to work on their fanclub shit every christmas ("christmas elves" they called us), and his current boyfriend at the time was this moody, poetic little dude named Doug. But it was supposed to be all hush-hush, like everything with them. So Dougie and the rest of us are stuffing envelopes, etc, and Michelle came in and said "Doug, Michael's on line 2 for you." And Doug starts to pick up the phone, looks around at the other 3 of us nervously, and then goes in the next room. But the door's glass, so we see him in there, whispering into the phone, and getting all cuddly... so much effort for nothing. Nobody was supposed to know anything, but everybody did.

My wife's younger brother dated Darrah from Survivor Image for about seven years. I practically watched her grow up.

I live within a mile of Britney Spears's house. My children go over to swim there fairly often.

My mom has hosted Steven Seagall on a few wild hog hunts. That's been a few years ago. She said that he was 'very nice'.

Dude, that's not your mom with Nick Cave in your avatar, is it?

Most of the interviews I've done over the years have either been on the phone and/or were quick promo jobbies the subjects forgot two minutes later. Can't say I'm connected to anyone beyond that one moment in time.

Best I can do is say Senator Susan Collins' brothers live a few streets down from me and Ellis Paul (who probably doesn't remember me) is my cousin.

Most of the other people would have seen me as another useless announcer babbling at them, probably. Though Natalie McMaster once called me "cute." Boy-howdy.

Jesus, Rodney, that's Dr. Johnny Fucking Fever from WKRP! Why you gotta soil the man's fine reputation with that "Head of the Class" garbage?

I'm a cousin of the late Senator John L. McClellan. My great grandfather and he were first cousins and practically grew up together from what I hear.

I had a roommate who boozed with Brett Favre at USM.

My father went to high school with the vice president of international marketing (or some such huge title) for Wal-Mart.

My brother is good friends with Brooks Barnard, the former punter from Maryland who is still trying to break into the NFL.

I had another roommate whose father was on several episodes of "Miami Vice" as an extra while his mother dated Steve Carlton in high school.

Steve Largent's son, Kyle--the one who was jumping on the bed in the Hane's commercial, went to my high school briefly, though a year after I graduated. I did hang out with him a couple times though.
