With apologies to Msrs. James, Ward and Eyes, these motherfuckers are the Monsters of Folk

I need to give it another listen but yeah I liked it a lot. Prefer the Macauley songs to the others but most of them had at least something interesting going on with the guitar in them.

If you really actually listened to music, Dale, you would hear that it's good.

I suspect this argument isn't exactly about this specific album.

curious what you think. haven't given it a proper full listen yet, but i'm wary that this might be the first of his in a while that i will not be purchasing. it almost doesn't sound like him, which is a first, for better or worse.

I listened this afternoon, and I'll back you on the 'good nearly great'.

oui, mo' mimi.

i really like it, 2nd listen more than the 1st. i doubt it'll compete with anything beyond "Things We Lost...", but IMO it's much better than "Great Destroyer" and definitely way better than "Drums n' Guns". A return to form on one hand, but on the other it almost seems like they're succumbing to the fact that they painted themselves into a slowcore corner. "C'mon", right? BUT there is really good dynamic within this record, in production, which is much more palatable than the last 2. Songwriting leaves a bit to be desired, but the melodies are very strong. I like it a lot. Worth listens, especially knowing how much you love Low, but yeah wait for something better than this web-rip (which is fine).

I listened to it again today and outside of Daydreaming, which is great, I'm not liking it nearly as much as I first did. I'll probably check it out a few more times as I preordered the cd but it's going in the merely good pile.

Austin, TX is a psych-center for pleasing psych-otic people and pleasing psych-edelic music. New group Shapes Have Fangs will release their debut album Dinner in the Dark through The Black Angels' Reverberation Appreciation Society. Their music is most easily classified as distorted fuzzed-out desert rock. Through their tunes, they sound like peers of The Black Angels with a similar vision, especially with regards to The Black Angels' latest and most upbeat offering Phosphene Dream.
