a good point i just read elsewhere is that most other players would get a cortisone shot and be sent right back out there. but cutler can't do that with diabetes.

Cutler biggest problem is perception of him as a rich, pompous douchebag -- something he can control, and has done nothing to combat since before he was in the league.

Key word being perception. I have no idea what kind of guy he is really but it does seem like he lets moments define him instead of defining the moment. Even going back to the whole ordeal with Denver. Turns out Josh McDaniels was kind of fail but Cutler allowed himself to come off as the dick as well.

I mean, the guy just lead his team to the NFC playoffs and what we're talking about today is his toughness. Of course if he wins yesterday we're talking about overcoming adversity, etc. But, because people have this perception of him everything will be dissected now. Even down to how he sat on the bench away from the offense, etc, etc.

Life in the NFL.

Not for nothin but I think 75% of the country picked those games correctly as well.

After watching the Bears/Packers game I can't help but feel that Cutler has a fragile psyche. When things are going well, everything is fine but if he struggles he kind of resigns himself and gives up. He's very talented and has great potential but he doesn't strike me as a passionate fighter and a leader.

the crux of the cutler imbroglio, as i see it, is would cutler have come out of the game (and STAYED out) had the score been reversed?

seems he used the injury as an excuse to get him off the hook for playing like ass and getting his team in such a deep hole to begin with.

i doubt he would have remained so calm and passive on the sidelines if he had been playing well up to that point and the bears were in the lead.

ALTHOUGH, Deion's take down of him on NFLN last night was pretty awesome "I probably shouldn't say this on TV, but I took shots everywhere so I could play. It's not only about your name on the back of the jersey that you are playing for but the name of that city on the front, etc[/paraphrase]

Serious question. Do you think if T.O. played for the Bears, he would have stuck up for Cutler?

Probably not, but it would be questionable as to whether he actually felt that way or was just trying to direct some of the attention towards himself.

Now I don't know if this is true or not, but I read earlier today that due to his diabetes he cannot receive cortizone shots. Regardless, I'd much rather him sit with a MCL sprain for half a game then play through it and miss considerable time next season by further injuring it.

Yes, and faux-cried about it.

OK, so apparently...

1. Cutler has a sprained MCL, not torn.
2. He went out to a steakhouse after the game and CLIMBED THE STAIRS INSTEAD OF TAKING THE ELEVATOR.

Anybody still interested in defending this guy?

Jesus Christ.

1. A sprain is a tear.

2. Climbing stairs is a HELL of a lot different than running away from Clay Matthews.

The guy was hurt. He played most of the second hurt, tried to come out for the third, before the medical staff eventually pulled him. Give it a rest.

Technically, a sprain can be a tear or just stretching of the ligament. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sprain

Also Drew Brees played with a similar injury this season http://www.nola.com/saints/index.ssf/20 ... ck_83.html But he did take the high road on comparing to Cutler's injury.

I guarantee if someone like Vick or Romo were in the same situation, this would be a non-story.

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!?!?!?!?

If it was Romo, the criticism would be 10 times WORSE!

He damn near got run out of the league for taking a Mexican vacation in the bye week before a playoff game!

yes.

i'm excited for the game and kinda thrilled with the current atmosphere between steelers and packers fans. my friends who are packers fans are just kinda like, "this should be a hell of a game." there's no animosity because the teams play each other rarely and the communities are pretty similar - smaller cities with a ridiculously high percentage of residents interested in football, and very wide fanbases. my biggest worry right now is pouncey's health.

Also, for the record...I think Cutler was hurt pretty bad.

The thing that hurts Cutler is his stupid pouty face and his body language, if he grew up and acted like he cared about the game, this wouldn't be as big of a deal.
