I haven't listened to it yet. I just downloaded it and then threw up the link.

man, Autechre hasn't been good in years

I got "Untilted" a few years back and boy did it suck, talk about self-indulgent bleep-bloop crap

and I usually like bleep-bloop stuff

I only have a few of their albums, but I would say that their sound is generally consistent. They might make a few changes, but you always seem to know it is an Autechre album.

Yeah, I mean Untilted isn't "self-indulgent bleep-bloop crap" at all compared to Draft 7.0 or Confield. In fact, I think it's a lot more straightforward.

Anyway, Quaristice had some great moments. Here's hoping they continued in some of that album's better directions. I'll wait for the release date.

Drinky, you and I have differing tastes in electronic music for sure

not that there is anything wrong with that

but I prefer their earlier work as compared to what's being done now, including that Confield album you mentioned

also I'd venture to say that Autechre's sound experiments have changed significantly since, oh, say the last 10 years or so.

I really like stuff like Incunabula and Tri Repetae much, much better when they were doing stuff that had grooves

I'm just saying that their current direction started well before Untilted, but yeah, they've changed a lot since their early stuff.

I like all of it, but it's not too hard for me to understand why a lot of people don't get into Confield and the like. I just found it weird at the time - and still do - that people singled out Untilted as the record to complain about. I thought it really reined in their experiments in favor of more beats and tighter structures.

Heather Woods Broderick - From the Ground

This leaked back in like September. Technically a 2010 release, some of you may have this already but felt it was worth sharing. This is the sister of the moderately known Peter Broderick.

The album is mid to heavy on the experimental/ambient with some quality singer/songwriter moments. I enjoyed the album. Doubt it'll take anyone by storm or make people's top tens, but it is a good listen nonetheless.

Joe Pug - Messenger (2010)

Quote:
Joe Pug will release Messenger on February 16, 2010 on Lightning Rod Records. Messenger is the long awaited follow-up to his highly acclaimed self-released EP Nation of Heat.
After playing over 200 shows, including runs with Steve Earle, M.Ward and Josh Ritter, Pug took to the studio to record his sophomore release. While Nation of Heat, Messenger solidifies his spot among the finest songwriters of his generation. Pug’s soulful voice and lyrical vignettes guide listeners through the album’s ten tracks, none of which retreat to the comfortable and familiar haven where typical singer-songwriters rest. may have earned him the title of talent to watch,

With Messenger, Pug explores new territory, sneaking pedal steel guitar into “The Sharpest Crown” and backing “The Door is Always Open” with a powerhouse rhythm section. The album’s subtle beauty is showcased through the supporting cast Pug uses to expand his sound. However, he does not let his solo charm escape the album. Songs like “Bury Me Far (From My Uniform)” and “Unsophisticated Heart” make it obvious that Pug is still master of the-guy-and-the-guitar song.

Nice! Was wondering when this was going to drop. Its on Jason Isbell's label, which is a plus as well.

So I guess I don't really think Aziz Ansari is all that funny. I only laughed a couple of times listening to the album.

I kinda did the same. More than a couple, but not Patton Oswalt levels. He yells too much. His delivery is... wierd.

Yeah, he seems really awkard, and not in a painful/funny Galifianakis kind of way. Just amateurish.

It didn't help that on the two talk show interviews I saw with the guy, he just did jokes off the album verbatim. I feel like a good comic could at least pull off a good impromptu conversion on a talk show without having to do one of his bits.
