a joke?

I may be in the minority, but I think 2009 is one of the better years for new music lately.

This is definitely a year that I've been listening to more "non-current" music. Nothing much from 2009 has caught on with me...

Mayer Hawthorne hasn't been aging well, Yeah X 3 hasn't "grown on me", Biblio and DOOM are a bit scatter shot, Dead Man's Bones is 3-4 great songs + filler...

I'm thinking the top spot honors, unless I'm forgetting something/someone, are up for grabs between Future of the Left, Mastodon, Baroness, Health, and possibly my least favorite Mountain Goats album of the last 8 years...

EDIT:

researched a bit, and forgot that the following were 2009 and past-decent: Handsome Furs, Pains of Being Pure at Heart, Microphones, and God Help the Girl. Still don't make a great year, though...

You're right. Pretty much everything you've listed is far from great.

I can honestly say that I truly love 2 albums from this year. The rest I can take or leave them.

No way I'm ready to put any list in a semblance of order, but generally speaking, most of these will probably end up being included, with the more liked ones appearing in the top part:

Loudon Wainwright III
Guy Clark
Ben Nichols
The Duke & The King
A. A. Bondy
Joe Henry
Felice Brothers
Subdudes
Bottle Rockets
Justin Townes Earle
Handsome Family
Bonnie Prince Billy
Toni Childs
John Doe & The Sadies
Lucero
Vetiver
Webb Wilder
Marissa Nadler
Flatlanders

I finally ordered that Son Volt today, as well as a new Wrinkle Neck Mules, and a recent release by Ha Ha Tonka that I stumbled across some clips from today that I really like. I'm thinking that all 3 of those will fit in somewhere.
