The Big Money (Slate podcast) talked about the Obama Fail Caucus, which I think is a good way of stating what these people have become. They're against anything of his succeeding, dispite what it means for our economy, country, children, etc.

I'm confused why he would be so confounded/dismayed about a speech to kids about good values and work ethic.

not sure if you were implying that i'm waiting for a big fuck you, I was just saying the speech wasn't anything close to being something people should have gotten worked up about, pulling their kids out of school and such.

I say fuck'em now. If they are going to pass this shit without a public option and a clause stating they can fine me for not having insurance, they deserve a mid-term election loss.

Absolutely retarded. Why don't you take that $750 or more you'll fine me and give me a decent insurance plan with it. That's 62.50 a month from my calculation. That's a lot less than what it was being taken out of my paycheck to cover a basic Blue Cross/Blue Shield plan at work with Dental/Vision added in.

I think it should be simple.

The government should offer a discount plan to everybody, but everybody has to pay something. If you want to pay more to get a better plan, fine. If you don't want to have any plan, fine, no health care for you but then we run into big problems with the pre-existing condition b.s.

I'm still betting on some "trigger" plan... giving the insurers a chance to develop some lower cost options, but then, if they fail after a couple of years, boom, public plan in place. Tomorrow should be really interesting!!!

I understand Grassley is going to meet with Baucus in the morning with a few more things to discuss.

The main detail being that any public option is going to have to also include a provision making it mandatory that everyone have coverage. Otherwise, your pool of healthy people will be too small to make the numbers work.
