Forgot how good these are. Man, what a great punchy burnt stout, but with a clean body.

bring on the stouts (and porters)!

i was stoked to find these two guys hanging out on the shelf the other night. released in june/july, i totally thought i'd missed the boat. one for now, one for the cellar to sit next to XXIII:

Nice estone. I managed to score a bottle of their "The Dissident" last week. Looking forward to trying it.

I've never had that Big Bear Black Stout. I kinda stopped with Bear Republic after hearing great things about Racer 5 and not liking it. That stout is pretty reasonably priced though. I should give it a try.

It's not an "event" beer, but it's also a lot better than the $7 I paid for a 22 of it.

I just had a bottle of that Bear Republic stout the other night. Busty gave it to me last time I was up there. God knows how long it had been sitting in his cupboard. Twas delicious.

Tried another from Port Brewing, the Wipeout IPA. Very good West Coast IPA and a nice bargain at 5 bucks for a .22

Out with the wife the other night, had a couple of drafts, Bell's Best Brown Ale (never had on draft: delicious), and Harpoon's Rye IPA (about what I would expect from Harpoon: solid but not spectacular)

I've been drinking a bunch of stouts and porters since that's all that I'm down to in the beer fridge.

So, this is the beer list at the restaurant I am going to tonight.
LINK
I am leaning towards the Dragon's Milk (on tap), which I know that I adore. But do any of y'all see anything on there that I should just not miss?
Suggestions?

Not a fan of the really heavily hopped beers (IPAs and such), but a good German lager is not out of the question.

If there's a list in that post it's hidden well.

On tap: If you haven't already had it, I say Three Floyds, Robert The Bruce.

The Dragon's Milk is what I would have recommended if I hadn't known that you had already had it. I love that beer.

If you want to try something new maybe the Jolly Pumpkin La Parcela or Southern Tier Creme Brulee Stout on tap or the Monk's Cafe Flemish Sour Bottle.

I had a Ten Fidy last night. I don't know if I had a bad can or maybe just aged it too long or whether that's how its supposed to be but it had very little head or carbonation and the mouthfeel of drinking motor oil. I swallowed down 2/3 of it and pitched the rest.

I remember Ten Fiddy being incredibly "silky" like an oatmeal stout.

First off, Bavarian Lodge is awesome! White cheddar curds are incredible. Get there EARLY! Families pack that place by 5p.

Pertaining to beers, try the Solemn Oath. New brewery in Naperville that is doing some good things. Other than that, Dreadnaught for $7 isn't bad. Big Eddy RIS at $5 is a steal... don't let the name Leiny's sway you in the wrong direction. Rev's Mad Cow is awesome and they're having a barrel-aged Mad Cow release in less than a month. All else fails, Double Jack is always a winner.

Worst fears for Goose will be when John Laffler leaves and starts his own place (~ 1 year). Forget about anything barrel-aged from them ever again.

What was the canning date on Fidy? Also, La Parcela is one of only three pumpkin beers I like, Schlafly's and Midnight Sun's Oaked TREAT being the others.

No, that sounds about right...except that it's fucking delicious. *shrug*

So, Dragon's Milk is good? It (and lot's of other New Holland beers) are available in Georgia now. I've heard it's pretty good, but it's also pretty pricy. How are their other beers?

Also, I've had cans of Ten Fidy that were ~1 year old and tasted amazing, in fact I just grabbed a four pack that was canned last November since the new cans have shown up.

Yeah, it's really great. It's the only thing I've had from New Holland. Their beers aren't generally available out here. Somehow, an anniversary party this summer for a local brew pub had a keg of it. It was the best thing I had that day which is saying a lot because they probably had 5 offerings each from Russian River, Firestone Walker, Pizza Port, Port Brewing, and Ballast Point in addition to things like Dogfish Head 120 Minutes.

It's also the beer I had in mind when I was contemplating buying beer via mail order awhile back.

Yeah, I would have recommended that one too if Todd hadn't said that he didn't like IPAs.

Sheesh... I totally glossed over that sentence. Remove Dreadnaught from the equation too!

Ok, now I've just had a year old Ten Fidy: There should definitely be at least a half finger of tan colored head and distinct carbonation. Motor oil, yes, but otherwise, you're right, you may have gotten a bad can.

Also, if you ever want a care package of Dragon's Milk or anything else we can get here that you can't get there, I'll gladly ship it for probably cheaper than the online sellers. Just PM me.

Yeah, I figured that it couldn't be that it was supposed to be that flat. I even ended up pouring the beer into the glass from about four inches above the glass for the last half of the can and there still wasn't any head to it. I pulled the can out of the recycling today and the canning date was in November 2009 so that was probably the issue.

Thanks for the offer. I have more beer than I know what to do with at present but I might take you up on that some time in the future. You should definitely pick up some of the Dragon's Milk for yourself though.
