Just put down my down-payment for when my Tele arrives.
It's mine!
Now I just need to bring it home.

It's on backorder. Should be about a month or so.
Sorry if I am overly excited. You see, the only (decent) electric guitar that I have ever owned is the one that I got as a H.S. graduation present, and am still playing 25 years later—my 88 Squire Strat. So, this is a momentous purchase for me.

I remember that feeling - opening a guitar case and knowing nobody else has ever played it. It smells so new, and every little thing is just right on it. At some point it will get a few knicks on it, but they're YOUR knicks.

I remember dropping my brand new 88 strat on top of the bridge of my ibanez. The bottom corner of the strat hit it, and it immediately cracked off a clean chunk of finish and color, straight down to the maple body wood, about the size of a screw head. I remember being dejected for about 30 seconds, and then feeling very relieved that it was finally over.

No, and "fugly" is too kind. What a colossal waste of time and wood.

The wood craftsmanship is stunning, but as a whole it is pretty atrocious.

It is a well-made, fantastically unattractive guitar.

Plus you would have to relearn the fretboard because I'm pretty sure it's tuned to prince.

hunter green would look good.
but what about this color? http://www.art-paints.com/Paints/Waterc ... -Brown.gif

The aluminum is brushed, so it's not incredibly shiny. Whatever it is, it needs enough contrast to be read easily. I tend to drink when I play.

As for the light from below, that's actually a really good idea. Jesus. So how ... how do I ... what the fuck do I do for light? LED strip? Or shit a strip of those vinyl tube led light? I have to think about that. Would have to get power to it, too.

Hello sorry for old thread reply but which lights have you got? I am fed up searching for these light so please help me if you can..

Is that a Malcolm Young Gretsch?
Or whatever Gibson it was that he played before the Gretsch?

PopTodd - could be? The knobs are in the right place. This guy may have added that Bigsby? It threw me off because the finish is like a Gibson Les Paul Double Cut Firebrand, but I don't know if that exists, and again... the knobs are the Malcolm Young Gretsch.

There are so many 1-man shops now making mashup guitars that I just give up before I even wonder. Looks cool though.

looks like a gretsch duo jet double cut away to me.

They've got a malcolm young duo jet, but it doesn't seem to have a bigsby.

I think I am finally going to sell the Mesa Dual Rectifier combo.

1. It is huge. Takes up too much space in our closets, is a ROYAL pain to get down stairs of any kind much less upstairs... two man lift. Too damned big to put on a bike to go to practice, almost kills the bike trailer even. Just too damned big for a guy with no car and no rock gigs.
2. It only makes rock sounds well. I don't play anything NEAR big rock these days. It doesn't come close to the clean sound of the old fender or the newer ceriatone frankenamp, and that franken does a lovely burnt hot clean.
3. I want something small and awesome. And I figure for what I get for this amp, I could pretty much get it. A Carr, a princeton reverb, something I could play pedal or tele through at practice or gigs and then toss it onto my bike rack and GO.

I'm thinking of selling it commission through that awesome little boutique store down the street from home, and taking store credit.

Thoughts?

What are they selling for used?

I'd sell it outright on craigslist, commission on a consignment is silly.

Or if it's a good shop and you have a good working relationship with them, i'd try a trade if they had something you wanted.

i'd look at some 60s vintage ampegs, like a reverberocket, but I'm wondering if the resale on the mesa is too low to get a vintage fender.

I'd also look for a mesa subway rocket. Those are running in the $500-600 range and holding steady.

I fought it for a LONG time. And with enough room I'd just hang onto it forever as a collector piece. But...

So I'll look at the suggestions above. I know the older Ampegs well enough, have plunked around on a few of the space-age ones (Gemini, etc) and a flip-top cab once too. But I may be thinking something less traditional, like a lunchbox amp. The thought of literally tossing the WHOLE amp into my pedal / cord bag is incredibly alluring. Really curious how thin the steel would sound through a ZT Lunchbox. I would just damned go direct at gigs anyway. Whatever I get doesn't need reverb, thanks to Phil's eeeeexcellent suggestion of the Holy Stain pedal. Fucking love that crazy thing.

Soooo, some choices I'm mulling:

1. ZT Lunchbox linked above. Pros = portability maxed out, transport doesn't get easier than this. Cons = Might not have enough ass to play steel through. Might, though. Like, if they had a bass amp version I'd opt for that instead.
2. Mini-Head / 1x10 cab. Orange Tiny Terror or VOX Night Train, more likely a THD Univalve. Then I'd buy / make a 1x10 with a bassy ten from Weber. Head would go in the gear bag, cab would go in a bag and onto a bike rack. Pros = Sound... this would sound better than the ZT.
3. Some old high quality 1x10 combo. Cons = price, otherwise this is a good all-around solution I guess.

Mesa Trem-o-Verbs seem to be going for a little north of a grand. Mine is now 100% functional again after the knob repair, just has some little scuffs and such from use. Not mint.

Yeah, THD Univalve is the front runner right now. That and a 1x10 cab to be determined. If I got a pre-made one, it would likely be that Vox dealy. Otherwise I could get an empty cab (unfortunately about the same $ as the completed Vox) and then buy a weber and load it up.

Edit: They are discontinued, so I'd have to find one used. Dern.
