LOVED this beer, so thanks to all of those who posted about it here and recommended it. Had a couple of these while grilling and eating on the patio Sunday night. Great balance of hops and alcohol. I'll be coming back to this beer a lot in general, and definitely during the warm months.

Yeah that might be their best. It's solid.

Mikkeller Single Hop Warrior

Belgium brewery doing America IPAs. It's a really fruity beer with some late hops that manage to be neither extremely flavorful nor smooth. If you're the kind of guy who likes sliced fruit in your beer, you may enjoy the overt orange flavor. But other than that, it's pretty forgettable.

Actually, Mikkeller is Danish. He goes around the world brewing beers in small batches at small breweries.
Here's the Beer Advocate note on him: Mikkeller is a "phantom brewery" run by Mikkel Borg Bjergsø. He brews the beers in collaboration with several other breweries.
I haven't had many beers that strongly feature the Warrior Hop, that isn't a traditional brewing hop and was just recently invented.
I have had nearly every Mikkeller Single Hop variation.
My top three are:
Nelson Sauvin
Centennial
Amarillo

It says brewed in Belgium on the bottle but I'll take your word for it.

No, you're correct he did brew these in Belgium, but it isn't really a Belgian variation of an American IPA like what has become trendy recently.
Also I should mention his next project is a yeast varietal with English, Belgian, German and American yeast variations being the big ones.

Description
Indian Summer is a light profile American-style wheat ale spiced with Orange Peel and Coriander. Our recipe uses a mix of wheat and pale barley. This beer is very lightly hopped to allow the spices to shine through. Clean fermenting yeast produce a very dry, crisp base to further accentuate the spices. The aroma has a distinct citrus note without being overly fruity.

Pretty meh. I get they're going for a spiced, warm-weather ale, but the beer seems watered-down for some reason. Not unlike the current crop of beachy/summer vibed indie rock, amirite?

Gonna give it a few days, but I'm going to try out a friend's first batch of home brewed American pale ale. Another friend and I helped him bottle it so I took home a sixer. Fresh out of the bucket it smelled great and had the usual bitter/hop aftertaste of an American pale but was lacking some oomph. We'll see what it tastes like after being refrigerated and maturing a bit. His next batch is going to be a European style bock.

All of Lazy Magnolia's beers are underwhelming.

A standard European Pale Lager from Latvia, nothing great, but I needed to kill time before the doors opened at the Mahjongg show.

You get the Obscure Import prize hands down, Prom. Boldly treading where only swarthy eastern europeans go.

I miss home brewing, badly. Maybe I should start again.

Busty was just here, briefly. Many high content beers vanquished.

The pecan one is good if served VERY cold.

I grabbed some of the Belgica and some Two Hearteds and a 4 pack of Saison for a little get together last night.

Making some chicken tacos tonight - going to finish the Belgicas.

I've only had the Pecan, but it was, indeed, meh. Maybe I didn't have it cold enough.

The Aldaris is a Carlsberg Group brand, so it isn't all that odd, just not widely available in the USA.
I tend to go with the Imports, since I have drank most of the domestic microbrews available to me in Nebraska, and have yet to break down and arrange a beer trade with someone who lives on the coast.
Shelton Brothers distributes alot of imports to the Lincoln and Omaha Brew pubs and high end beer stores, so I get a better selection of those than I do American craft brews.

My beer of choice for tonight:

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A special twist on the Finnish style Sahti, brewed at Nøgne Ø in cooperation between Dugges Brewery, Sweden, and Nøgne Ø of Norway. Brewed with rye and wheat, sea wormwood from the Swedish archipelago, juniper twigs from the Norwegian forests, honey from heather flowers in Telemark and three selected yeast strains from Belgium, Germany and Britain, and of course, some malt and hops too.

I passed a newly opened home brewing store the other day and thought it seemed like a good idea...until I remembered I don't drink beer. But something about the DIYishness of it has always appealed to me.

I'd love to home brew, but living in an apartment makes that next to impossible, if you want to do it the right way.
I've helped folks brew from scratch with no extracts, and it is amazing how complex some of these local guys are with brewing small batches of top quality beer.
If I was going to do anything right now, I would go through BJCP examination process to become a craft beer judge. I've been told by one of them that runs a local brew pub that I would be good at it and probably have enough knowledge to pass a few of the style test already.

The whole spices and fruits in beer (non-lambics) is really getting old. In fact, I've never liked it. But it's getting to the point now where I am finding it hard to find new beers to try that don't have this type of thing going on.

I start thinking I wanna do it again, and then I remember that it was an all-day affair each time. I try and imagine when I would do it now, and it's a joke. Neuro has a friend who just bought gear and organized a day for several of us to buy ingredients and go brew stuff, and I couldn't even make that. In my head the image is me reaching over to grab the baby right as the pot boils over on the stove, sending a waterfall of scorching-hot sticky wort all over the entire kitchen.

Divorce.

I think their classic doggystyle IPA is very nice beer but not exciting that I enjoy. Other than that, I think their beers are not very good.

I like Flying Dog's Bier de Garde, Golden Ale and Belgian Wit, and the fact that Ralph Steadman illustrates their labels.

I got underwhelmed by Flying Dog enough about 6 years ago that I quit 'em for good.
