The new dentist the missus fell in love with is in Groton. So we take bikes to that train station right there, then ride out to Ayer, then bike half an hour to it. That's my only excuse for being around Belmont these days.

That's a long way for a dentist.

They've opened up a bunch of other CBC stores as well. https://craftbeercellar.com/

We just hit the one in Waterbury. It was pretty swanky inside, lots of room. And basic homebrew supplies / a training space to show people how to brew. Oh and the Pro Pig is opening its own brewery behind them, in a barn thing they moved in from somewhere. It's raised up off the ground a little to help with future floods, but it still looks like it would be fucked.

I have a new boss, from California. Nice guy, and he's into beer. He keeps asking about breweries out here and takes notes, then comes back and tells me what he thought of their stuff. I gave him one of the Heady Toppers I just brought back from Vermont, and he had it last night. "It was incredible. It's better than Pliny and Blind Pig, it's smoother and more floral. I was amazed." And he was a little skeptical to begin with, being a bit of a west coast homer.

In return he brought me one of the 3 bottles he brought out here of something called Enegren, some massive stout aged for 11 months in oak barrels. He swears it's one of the bets beers he's ever had, and the single beer he misses most out here. He almost looked like he was in pain giving it to me, I felt really bad and tried to defer. So THAT will be exciting. He is keenly interested in my feedback.

Three cheers for new bosses who are beer geeks.

In the early 80's when dangerous punk gangs such as the "L.A. Death Squad" and "Circle One Family" were running rampant, few of the gangs stood out as much as the Suicidals, who dressed like Cholos. Formed from punks who grew up and lived in the ghettos of Venice, Long Beach, Santa Monica, and other parts of LA.

Gang attire consisted of a lot of blue: Blue bandanas worn around the forehead and covering most of the eyes, Flipped up hats with the words "Suicidal" under the bill, flannel jackets buttoned on the top only, white shirts tucked into ironed dickies pants or ben davis jeans, and Vans skate shoes or Zig Zag shoes. Also noteworthy are the custom hand drawn white dress shirts worn by most of the Suicidals and Suicidal affiliates to shows which had skulls and other frightful things drawn on them with the words "Suicidal" used often. Serious gang members would get numerous things tattooed on their bodies such as Suicidal, Suicidals, Suicidalx13, STx13, and also tattooes of Razor Blades on the wrist were not un-common

In the 80s, hardcore punk concerts would most likely have Suicidal gang member attendees which would result in people getting beat up, stabbed, and sometimes killed.

I fucking haaaate that beer. But I think it's tied to my hatred of cucumbers. Watermelon has a similar taste in the background behind all the sugar, and I've never really been able to enjoy it.

I hate cucumbers. I can sorta tolerate watermelon, but it smells like cucumbers, so I avoid it.

Hell or High Watermelon doesn't taste like watermelon or cucumber to me -- just like a kinda crappy pale ale. Don't understand the love.

But speaking of pale ale, we just got Bell's distribution in New York for the first time ever this year, and I'm enjoying the hell out of some Midwestern Pale, Two Hearted, and Oberon. I've kind of stopped buying anything else when Bell's is avialable. I'm sure that will change, but probably not this summer.

Since I moved to Toronto, I've been slowly working my way through a ton of Ontario microbrews, etc. I went through a dark beer kick over the winter and found the following to be a few of my favorites in the dark / brown category:

Stonehammer Dark
Amsterdam Boneshaker Unfiltered IPA (not really dark, but sooo heavy and hoppy)
Neustadt 10W30

Yep.

Also, I had a couple of Sculpins for the first time in a good while and they were very disappointing. Hard to really say much based on a couple of beers but while I would have said in the past that Sculpin was every bit the equal to pliny these two beers were no better than average west coast ipas. I'd also agree with your assessment that they were too bitter not floral enough. I know that they are producing much larger quantity now so maybe the quality is suffering as a result? I did a quick search to see if anyone was complaining about a decline in quality and didn't find much. I did find a post on a liquor store's website that said that Ballast Point had made some minor changes to the Sculpin recipe but who knows if that's correct. Anyway very disappointing. Hopefully, I just got a bad four pack.

holy fuck that's good news... means they're able to expand their network, hopefully eventually getting here. I fucking love Bell's so much. Closest they got before was PA.

Modem I find the Canadian beer scene fascinating. They seem to have the right idea, but most of what I had last summer in Vancouver was just a decade behind the US. I'm sure they can catch up, but it left me realyl curious what drives the differences.
