That seems to be a common theme for those 8 Films to Die For series. I've seen two so far (probably watching a third tonight) and each one has been quite mediocre.

which ones have you seen?

i don't think i've seen any from 2006 but i've seen most of the 2007 ones.

mulberry st = probably the best of the bunch so far, even though it had an ultra low budget.

the deaths of ian stone = cool idea and pretty good execution until the end when he looked all fabio and shit.

borderland = meh. more torture porn.

tooth and nail = was alright...a little boring.

Awwwww, that's a little harsh.
Yes, the movie is a total formulatic sports movie, but there are some funny lines in there throughout it.

I loved the whole "cocksucker" scene when they were playing poker, not necessasarily the end with the gun going off, but everything before that.

The movie is at least worth a rental.

-Control - Loved it. Sam Riley did an amazing job playing Curtis. I will buy this some day.

The Hulk -Ed Norton rules. I highly enjoyed the action, as well as Tyler, Hurt and Roth's performance.

-Cobra -Watched this on instant browse from my netflix player.
Ooooh the days of silly cop action movies. So many unintentional lols.

-Watching Silence Of The Lambs now on AMC.

I haven't even seen the movie but I can imagine how it got green-lit:

"Okay sir for this next one, we've got Will Ferrell with an afro playing basketball and.."

"Done! I'm laughing already!!!! Make sure he gets naked and get the SuperBowl commercial ready!!"

Don't forget - the public LOVES the swingin 70s.

I would rather drink out of a chemical toilet than watch a Ferell movie.

Also, I just finished watching The Big Lebowski. Why the fuck is this supposed to entertaining? Jesus christ, I just had to go and slam my fingers in the door to cheer myself up.

I think its more of a cult thing. You either get it, or you don't. I think it also helps to watch it more than once.

Absolutely one of my favorite Coen Bros. It took me a few years of people constantly nagging me about it, but I came around. Laugh riot. Sorry DJ that you didn't like it.

On another note:

I got Persepolis from Netflix and watched it this evening. I was a fan of the graphic novel, and this didn't disappoint. Some of the political unrest in Iran was toned down a bit (still there, but not as pointed), but it still gets the message across.

the first time i watched it i had a very similar "you've got to be kidding, right?" reaction. then i gave it a second chance the next day and laughed a little bit. a few weeks later, it was on at a friend's house and i laughed a little more. this continued where every few months (or even weeks) i'd catch part of it and find something else totally amusing. finally i sat down to watch the whole thing again and loved it. this is the definition of a grower.

It's easy to see why this is hailed as such a classic. I can't say I really really enjoyed watching it, but I thought it was something I should watch. I will say that Orson Welles as Harry Lime was fantastic.

This is actually the second time I've seen it. The first was sometime in the late 90s and I basically had the same reaction. Why am I watching this? Why is everyone yelling so much? By the end when The Dude figures everything out and Donny dies I'm fucking perplexed as to why this is a cult favourite, then I'm reminded that 'Withnail and I' is also a cult favourite and realize that people like just about everything.
