i'm just pretty limited in my ability to hate, Fu; i can typically find at least one redeeming quality in almost every band.

i do hate master p and the whole no limit sound. what a complete waste of tape.

i might give you the fakers, but phish kicks ass. all they ever did was dig all the tunes we here at obner love and get rich.

plus phish shows were really fun, smelly hippies be damned.

i probably just threw them in there because they're one of the only other jam bands i know. there was a song of theirs that got played on radio that i didn't mind too much.

It wouldn't bother me not to hear Michael MacDonald sing ever again. I wish Alanis Morissette would disappear, too. Right after I teabag her.

It drives me crazy that boys who otherwise have great taste in music, (and who, it seems, I date), try to convince me of the absolute brilliance of their music.

I don't care if they're brillant, it still sounds dumb.

Ween is totally a dudes band, kinda like the Butthole Surfers. I would suggest however at least checking them out live at least once, Polly. As a musician you will be amazed by their profiency; I mean the guitarist (Dean? Gene? I always fuck this part up) is obviously really good but it shocked me how good the singer is (even sans the effects).

I really dislike the Eagles, but I cant hate on them too hard. "Life In The Fast Lane", for instance, is gold. Plus, Glenn Frey gets a Lifetime Pass from me for his work on Miami Vice. And I heard "Dirty Laundry" by Henley the other day and I must say its the best song that Warren Zevon never wrote.

Whoever said Phil Collins is a dolt....Dude wrote "In The Air Tonight"----the whitest song that brothers in locker rooms everywhere use to get fired up.

I've been accused of finding the good in way too many bad groups but I really really hate Nickelback. They suck in a most profound way. So fuck you, Nickelback.

You white people need to listen to Yail Bloor for once! The man speak the truth.

And all I can say is [img][427:500]http://img317.imageshack.us/img317/6874/tribettmug17bv.jpg[/img]
to whoever the fuck said Dr. Dre.

You fucking sinner. UNNNNNGGGH!

Since my hate is boundless, I will also add:
Aerosmith
Bon Jovi
The Moody Blues
Motley Crue
Lenny Kravitz

I also second the drawing and quartering of Michael McDonald. His only contribution is "I Keep Forgetting", without which, Nate Dogg & Warren G would have to "Regulate" acapella.

See? You can't deny the Fu. When he's right, he's right!

to add to his boundless list:
Quiet Riot
Taco
anyone that has anything to do with a Paul McCartney duet-- see, I don't wish away Sir Paul, or Stevie, or Michael, but when they perform WITH Paul? Ick.

Pearl Jam - not because I hate 'em, but because they're responsible, through no fault of their own, for Creed and Nickelback etal. I mean, you take away Creed and nothing changes, but you take away PJ and POOF! - all those shitty yarbling imitators disappear.

Black Sabbath - 'cuz I hate the sludgy, retarded metal these guys pretty much invented.

Cream - it's quite possible that without the existence of Cream the interminable deedly-deedly guitar solo wank would never have sullied my delicate ears.

Radiohead - yeh, thanks guys, just what the world needed: permission to toss out structure and melody in favor of narcissistic, pseudo-intellectual moaning about your own alienation. Thank god for the future generations that will DESPISE this shit.

Pavement - kinda the same boat as Pearl Jam - ie: tolerable on their own, but they encouraged a generation to obstinately refuse to try, and we're still deluged with their slack, untalented offspring.

Guided By Voices - Bob Pollard is a teacher by trade, and he has successfully taught a new batch of songwriters that it's not necessary to finish your songs, not necessary to learn your craft, and not necessary to even play your songs with any sense of passion or skill. Thanks, asshole.

Have you heard White Pepper? Shit, I like them enough for the fact that they can transcend the genres they shamelessly satirize. I think some of what they do is flat out drug induced self indulgence, especially the GodWeenSatan, Pod, and Pure Guava records. But some of what they do is brilliant and doesn't sound dumb at all.

And still he wrote a whole ton of great songs. Love 'em. Maybe I'm nuts, but I think the half-songs are pretty fun to listen to.

This is very true.

I will also nominate Kansas.

As much as I hate Creed (they're evil), they're not influential enough to matter. So...fuck 'em, but, no. (EDIT: Sorta like what Elvis Fu said about Nickelback &&/|| Candlebox.)

Eagles are a good call -- that whole alt.country thing is largely their fault. So yeah, good call, definitely on the short list.

Definitely not Yes or Rush -- I love prog.

Definitely not Black Sabbath -- I love metal.

Who's the first chick who did the singer/songwriter thing, Joan Baez? Joni Mitchell? As much as I don't hate her, her. Because I really hate that stereotype that women are delicate. Women rock, damit! In my world, Heart woulda been as big as Led Zeppelin...

But my final decision:

The Beatles -- now that would really make things interesting. Take away one of the biggest and most influential "power pop" bands -- yeah, that would definitely make things different.

Rodney, just because someone appears (and I use the term loosely) to be fuh-worthy doesn't make them talented or instrumental to music history. Besides, you've been in the South a time or two... girls who look like that are a dime a dozen - fake bake tans, bleached blonde hair, trowel-applied makeup. She really isn't that special in the whole scheme of things.

yeah but there are a million "artists" that are horrible and horrible to look at such as Limp Bizkit, Korn, etc.

I don't own any Eagles albums, not even the greatest hits. But I'll listen to them on the radio if they came on. Unless it is Take It Easy, or Already Gone.

And Aerosmith was my favorite band in 8th grade, so I still have a soft spot for them. They were the first serious band I got into, because previously I liked Vanilla Ice, Kriss Kross and MC Hammer.
