Also, what necessarily makes them pointless? Roughly 62 Million people died as a direct result of World War II, but I would hesistate to call those deaths "pointless".

Iraq / WWII = no comparison. Come on. And in regards to the deaths in Iraq, I think any civilian death is pointless. Now that the US military is fully entrenched in a conflict there, and there is democracy and innocent human lives at stake, of course the military deaths could be construed as having some "value"... sick as that sounds. But my original point was about intention, reasons for intervening in the first place. I'm not arguing that now that the damage is done, it has to be dealt with and resolved properly.

I wasn't comparing them. I'm saying that not every death is pointless, and asked you to clarify your position that even when positives arise from conflict the deaths are still pointless, but you chose to take the easy escape route instead.

and i'm not neccesarily a pacifist, either. And I believe there are situations where a nation or a group of nations should come to the aid of others. But do it honestly and fairly. Don't pick and choose who you aid based on the location of oil.
