i couldn't imagine being there. i've been to winter bears games but last night must have been insanely cold.

A few weeks ago when I realized how good the Bears D was.

Also we usually play like shit in the cold--we're a dome team, see--so actually I wasnt counting this game as a win at the beginning of the season when nobody knew how good the Bears were gonna---see its hard to play on the road in the NFL.

And Spade: Jesus man! How fucking cold was it out there? I was cold just watching it on TV. Also, those fans look like a group of reprobates on par with Philly. Congrats dude.

Hey, biking to work today was no picnic...

It was 9 degrees around kickoff, with a wind chill of -5, and eventually dropped to 8/-6. Really, there wasn't a ton of wind in the stadium though.

. I came pretty prepared - five layers on top, 2 on the bottom, toe warmers, two pairs of socks, well insulated shoes, hand warmers, gloves, scarf, skimask, hat - and that was enough to protect me while I was outside and fully exposed.

But THANK GOD I was with the people I was with - 29 year season ticket holders - a group of twenty people.

The group had also constructed a tarp tent the size of a kitchen across two vans with a full-blast generator and bazooka-shaped heater, an auxilary flame heater, two propane stoves heating up two kinds of soup, two different grills with buffalo cheese chicken and burgers etc, and a fucking deep fryer frying up coconut shrimp and fried fish. The shit was up to about 60 degrees in the tarp while we tailgating. It was unbelievable. So 4:30 to 6:30 was not too bad. But walking from the south lot to the game, the temperature started dropping REALLY quick. I had to strap 4 additional heat packs to my legs with duct tape.

Inside the game, unprepared people literally LIVED in the heated bathrooms for stretches of the game. And yeah - there were those crazy guys with their shirts off. Couldn't believe it. I would get a beer and the foam would start freezing about 2 minutes later. Eventually, all the beers turned into slurpees. I switched to hot chocolate when they put Grossman in and decided that I was going home sober and wasn't gonna do anything stupid.

The only real lingering damage was post-bundle-up syndrome today and a shot voice. All in all, not bad considering my buddy got some pretty bad frostbite.
