Charli: that SceneIt game is so much fun... we played with some friends this weekend, and I lost twice in a row... it never happens, so you can imagine how bruised my ego was! ;)

Finch: great idea.... looks like you had fun with the fam.

I received: numerous checks and various gift cards
booze (Knob Creek-- Santa left it in my stocking)
new lenses for my sport sunglasses (polarized for less glare)
a gift certificate for (3) 1 hour massages
a gift certificate to my favorite women's athletic apparel shop
a prayer box necklace
two scented candles
two bottles of wine delivered to the house this month and next
an unfortunate polartec top/pants set that my mom sent me that looks like it was meant for a 60 year old woman... I won't even describe it.

What I gave:
Nic Harcourt book and shoe calendar (oldest sister)
the new Anne Rice book (dad)
the Rod Stewart torch song cd vol 1254 (mom)
a huge bath/pampering gift set (older sister-- which was apropos, I'll explain later)
checks for college funds (niece and nephews)
Johnny Cash cd (redneck brother in law-- which I wish I'd never sent)
Sugoi athletic top, Prana shorts, Looney Tunes golden collection vol. 1, $200 gift card to Banana Republic, Dead Kennedys "Fresh Fruit" remastered cd, Climbing and Bicycling magazine subscriptions (husband)

So during my phone conversation with my family, saying thanks and hearing what everyone else got, I talked with my older sister, who I'm unfortunately not as close with as I'd like. She's married to a guy who is... well, he's not my cup o' tea, but he's just that stereotypical angry Southern man. My sister dropped a bomb on me and told me they're getting a divorce, after 15 years of marriage and 3 kids. So while a part of me is happy about this, the other part of me is very scared and worried for her, because Lord knows what this guy will pull. I think she'll come out on top, regardless, but I have a feeling this could get very nasty. Oh, and the kids don't know yet, but I'd be willing to bet the two older boys already do, just by being around the situation.

Is Seinfeld available in syndication in the UK? I know that it was the notable omission from the syndicated viewing in both Romania and Spain; they had Married... with Children, Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Friends, even X-Files, but no Seinfeld. One of my North American cohorts - an English-fluent French Canadian - in Spain speculated that the humor wouldn't translate to a non-American audience, but... well... Is that the case?

The BBC broadcast Seinfeld at the time but they didn't treat it very well and moved it around the late night schedules, missed episodes out, dropped seasons half way through etc. So here it's a little known cult show.

I think episodes turn up on the cable Paramount channel but since I don't have any sort of TV (terresterial or otherwise) that's not much good to me.

I had pretty much all Season 5 (bar a few episodes) on tape as I do with later seasons but it appears I've not seen any of these episodes before so it's a bit like discovering a lost album by the Beatles or something.

You can change the language on the European DVD's to the German, French or Spanish dubbed versions and it's....bizarre what say the Teuton Kramer sounds like.

Starting at season 4, Seinfeld was probably the best television sitcom ever. I still Tivo the series regularly.

I'm sure that George's use of the Daily Worker's personals page to trawl for dates appealed to you....

well, you know what I say...if it's not a tiny panda bear that lives in the cranium of a larger panda bear, then why bother?

i don't really say that, but this cracks me up. I didn't even know there were Panda-Z toys...

I just cashed in my four $10 off coupons at Tower—separate transactions only, fuckers. The haul.

DJ Shadow :: Endtroducing [ Deluxe 2-CD Job ]
Curtis Mayfield :: Superfly
Neil Young :: Prairie Wind [ Deluxe CD + DVD Job ]
T. Rex :: The Slider [ Deluxe 2-CD Job with The Alternate Slider "Rabbit Fighter" ]
Mary Gauthier :: Mercy Now
The 88 :: Over and Over
Charles Mingus :: Mingus Ah Um
The Big Lebowski [ That new one with the black cover ]

Not too bad for getting let off work early with just under $90 burning a hole in my pocket.
