Also, Grandaddy's Todd Zilla...I'm an ardent supporter of nearly everything Grandaddy does (yes incl. Sumday), but this EP forced me to rethink that attitude.

Sorta like "kind of" and "bunch of"?

that MMJ record was really frustrating for me. i liked their last 2 but this one had a few awesome songs and a bunch of kind of stuff that seemed to have a few sonic tweaks to try to make up for a lack of good tunes.

Oh I totally forgot about that. FF gets bumped off my list for that piece of shit.

I hope the album is better.

Also, what says the AoL/Gira folks about the split with Akron/Family? I haven't really listened to it enough to have anything of substance to say, but I like what I've heard.

both halves are great.

Nah, the AoL half isn't great, but the Akron/Family portion definitely is. Altogether it's good enough to hang onto a spot in my top 20.

Akron/Family is easily wins the Best New Band Award as far as I'm concerned.

Here's the bottom 10 of the 2005 releases I've heard. These don't really suck, they were just varying degrees of disappointing...

10. Redwalls - De Nova
9. Pernice Bros. - Discover a Lovelier You
8. Alaska! - Rescue Through Tomahawk
7. Magnolia Electric Co. - What Comes After the Blues
6. Ivy - In the Clear
5. eels - Blinking Lights and Other Revelations
4. Idlewild - Warnings/Promises
3. Death Cab For Cutie - Plans
2. Shooter Jennings - Put the O Back in Country
1. Low - The Great Destroyer

I find this very hard to disagree with, except that I've only just recently started listening to them. But right now...there's not much competition.

Low? Really? I thought that album was one of the better Sub Pop releases of last year.

the weather right now - rough. every year around mid december I get antsy and start thinking about moving back to NC as the wife might like...then I actually go there for Christmas, spend some time with the in-laws, and come back and think - this rain is pretty nice compared to that hell.

plus it keeps a lot of the southern californians away.

Weird. I actually thought you were a proponent of this album.

No BillyG shits on any artist when they get some mainstream praise no matter how good the record is. See also: his dismissal of MMJ-Z

He is still cool though.

How do you explain the presence of Richard Thompson and Marianne Faithfull in my top 20 for this year then...I should have been shitting on them for the last 20 years then.

How about Trail of the Dead also. I should have been off them four years ago I guess.

I get that you like the new MMJ and Andrew Bird albums. I don't hate 'em, just don't like much. The reason my list of ten worst isn't populated by bands like the Poo Poo Bears is I'm smart enough to avoid hearing 'em.

I'm too lazy to try rank anything, so I'll state the obvious and say that the Dandy Warhols album was disappointing. Of course the charge could be levelled that their entire output sucks, but whatever. Their albums were always good for a few interesting tunes, but man, Odditorium was just shitty.

That's the trouble I'm having compiling a bottom 10 - all the stuff I know I won't like I've avoided hearing. I mean, the bottom ten? The bottom is bottomless. Christ, the Darkness released an album this year, and if I have to start considering them for a list I've also gotta think about shit like Nickelback. There is no end to it.

Dunno. Hearing problems?

No, it in all seriousness, I think that you are a great and honest music fan and I understand that you have become dismayed with rock music or whatever but its honestly suspect to me some of the opinions that you throw out....Sorry.

Truth be told, I have the same problem with Bilz. Y'all are just too fucking pretentious some times, but its your thing-----at least I actually pick something up because you guys do actually care enough to voice an opinion.

If we all agreed on everything, it would be boring, right?

Just take it easy.

My bottom 10 contains the albums I have listened to and/or purchased by bands/artists that I think I may like not shit like Nickelback. That's a whole 'nother top 10 list.
