I'm gonna buy this. Even if it sucks really hard (I know at least "The Wand" is passable), this is one of the five or six bands out there that I have any "loyalty" to. It might be the last record of theirs that I ever buy, but I'm gonna give 'em this chance, at least.

So, anyway, carry on.

I would, however, like a YSI of that Grandaddy album. :D

I've heard five or six of the songs and it's definitely worthwhile. Top 20? Maybe not, but I'll still buy it.

Top 20? that must mean this is going to be an absolute shit year for music.

C'mon Spoon. seriously.

I seem to remember you pimping that horrific Keane album as the "release of the year" halfway through '04, so I guess all of us are entitled to some poor judgment from time to time. :D

Neko Case, Flaming Lips, Drive-By Truckers all leak within 2 weeks of each other. I can handle it. No, really I can. I don't want to be tired of these records by the time they come out and have no reason to buy them. This is why I'll wait. I also don't want Obner opinion to taint my expectations of these records.

Good for you. I downloaded Bee's file when I stopped by the house at lunch (another split shift). Haven't unzipped it yet.

Two Waynes - The Newton-Coyne Project

Now there's a side project I'd like to see.

Get Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park involved, and it could be called FORT WAYNE.

I'm fairly certain Newton would stab Shinoda through the heart within minutes of meeting him. Then have his people get him a clean ruffled shirt.

Because he's Mongoloid?... But, hey, isn't Newton himself an Indian (corn)? And, aren't Indians (corn and curry) Mongolids?

Geezuz Monty, no. Because Shinoda deserves to die. Has nothing to do with race.

Wayne's presence would be violated and he would need to cleanse
himself.

I've listened to about half of it so far, and I gotta say I dig it. It's pretty organic sounding, with less of the over-the-top orchestration found on Yoshimi and The Soft Bulletin. The noisy guitar/keyboard build in "My Cosmic Autumn Rebellion" is especially nice.

It feels like 1974 all through this. Like Zappa '74.

Wayne's even more off-key than usual, like J. Mascis level off-key.

I really like "It Overtakes Me...", "Mr. Ambulance Driver," "The Sound Of Failure...," and "Vein Of Stars."

"Pompeii..." and "The Wizard Turns On" are straight-up floaty-ass prog.

Straight-up floaty-ass prog?

I'm a sucker for prog, so I'd consider that a compliment to the album.

All that aside, though, 'Pompeii' is damn near a Pink Floyd cover. The song is based around the bass and drums of 'One of These Days'. It works, but he should probably be paying a portion of the royaties to the members of Floyd.
