You PJ fans should move to the PacNW, where every third song played on the radio is a PJ song. I think it's state law.

No thanks. I don't think I need to hear them again for another 5-10 years.

Anyway, the X station and the classic rock station here both play them pretty regularly, I think.

I havent listened to FM radio in months.

And I'll spoonfeed myself my Pearl Jam, thank you very much. I know things that FM radio Program Directors cant even DREAM of. Dumbasses.

Reading this has inspired me to rip my PJ albums and spin them tomorrow. It's been quite awhile.

Ok, here is my music audience rant. Last night I went to see Lilys at a free show in Richmond, VA. There were three bands playing that night -- one local called Cinema[something], then [Sounds of] Kaleidoscope and then Lilys who were "headlining".

This was at VCU, a university of over 20,000 students. This was their "Spring Bash '06". This was FREE. For the first band, there were maybe 20 people out to support (some students but also looked like parents and friends/neighbors type thing for the local band). After the first band finished the entire audience walked out! So when [Sounds of] Kaleidoscope (a much better band) came on there were literally 6 of us in the room (and maybe 2-3 that walked in and out several times as they performed).

When Lilys came on stage to adjust equipment, it was me and my date (we drove 2 hours to see the show) and there was the sound guy and one student who was working for the school newspaper. I was sick to my stomach. Where were the bloody students? What kind of bash was this? Luckily, the second band and third band and I think a handful of friends/family of Lilys members came in and were sitting on the floor in front and made an audience.

Ok, mind, this bash was at the "Commons" and there was no alcohol or smoking allowed and there was an armed cop outside of the door (as if some kind of altercation was about to take place with this small assembly of people -- I mean it was a "bash" afterall). But I wonder why people think they cannot enjoy live music without drink? I just don't get it.

Glad we went, Lilys put on a really outstanding performance despite the poor turnout.

i used to be on the booking committee for my college and this is typical, especially for a weekend. our shows were always on fridays and the turnouts were decent for bigger bands, but they actually went up for weekday shows once we started them. people go home for the weekend. they go to parties and get hammered. there are a myriad of reasons why even free shows are poorly attended. i always blamed low attendance on the promotions department, but i knew better.

I'm torn by this story about the VCU show. When I attended the University of South Dakota, we would throw a Student Musicians Council Festival every Mayday. We started at like 10am and played until about 10pm/campus police told us to wrap it up. At its best we had something like 150-200 people sitting on the grass watching the bands or standing if it had to be moved indoors due to rain/snow.
Occassionally we would get someone pretty well known in the area and they would still only manage about 200, I actually enjoyed singing in front of a small audience, because they actually were listening.
At Nebraska, they have a free outdoor show to start the school year. When Cursive played here when Ugly Organ came out, the fountains area of the Union where they have the show was packed with people, alot of them high school kids. It kind of sucked to have teenage girls stepping on your feet as they jumped up and down while you are trying to listen and rock out.
The next year they had Head of Femur, and a crap ton of music majors from the old dorm I lived in were playing keep away in the fountain while the band played and continued to splash people during the show. It was a real distraction, and none of these kids could really understand why a bunch of normally passive indie fans were on the verge of kicking their ass and why people kept throwing their football away from them.
