I was really impressed by Slipknot when I saw them 1999.

I still enjoy Sir Elton's older stuff. Pretty much everything after the 70s sucks but the stuff before was pretty good. I saw him in 1992 or so on "The One" tour but don't consider that embarrassing.

Really you guys?

Ugh, it was just awful... It kept going and going and going. The only thing I really remember clearly was Angus Young running around jamming and threatening to pull his velvet shorts down and moon the crowd. It went on for like 15 minutes.... I wanted him dead.

I was really into Metallica/Anthrax/Slayer then, this would be summer of '87 or '88, so my tolerance for straight up hard rock was minimal if it wasn't at
breakneck speed.

And for those who dont get Neil Diamond, get a copy of his live show in Los Angeles from '87 on CD. It easily the most entertaining live CD I have ever heard. We crank it here in our office weekly.

T'ain't no way I'd have been embarrassed by a BTO concert.

Dudes were great and live I remember them going off on jazz-rock tangents that were only hinted at on the albums.

I got nothing. The least cred-worthy would have to be Rush (saw 'em twice, Grace Under Pressure and Power Windows--openers were Keel and Marillion).

Madonna, back when the Beastie Boys opened. What can I say? I was in love (with a girl).

what is with this madonna trashing? didn't her shows used to be really good? i remember that when she played the spectrum in 1993, one of the phillies playoff games was across the street. (parking was a nightmare.) and i was at the game, but half-wanted to see the show. and i heard it was pretty good from a few different people.

Stone Temple Pilots. In my defense, I didn't really know who STP were at the time (I think Core had just come out in Germany), but they definitely "rocked" or whatever. Weiland came out doing this weird "I'm trying to hypnotise you with my cool" dance and chanting "welcome to Las Vegas" before playing anything.

Twice I almost went to a DMB show. First one was to see Beck and Soul Coughing opening out at Foxboro, but I ended up flying out a few days before the show. I still kinda wish I'd seen Beck play a huge stadium. Second was girl-related, but I somehow got out of it (though I did receive a t-shirt and I still wear it all the time, just to make the indie snobs go "wha?").

And of course, lots of John Denver shows with my parents growing up.

it was my first concert though so i could probably use that as an excuse.

other than that the only one i'm embarrassed of now is:

aerosmith/guns 'n roses

i think it was right after g'n'r's first ep came out and aerosmith weren't totally played out at that point.

Didn't actually see the show, but showed up at a bar w while after that lame band that plays that Rock Star & Walking on the something or another songs played. The girls I was with thought it was funny to folow the lead singer around going c'mon rock star...where's the dope...hook a sista up...don't be holdin out asshole...and such things for the hour or so until the place closed up. He was a decent sport about it, I guess...mostly just seemed a bit scared/weirded out and kept his distance.

OK...guess that was a bit unrelated...just first thing that came to mind thinking of seeing lame bands.

Count me in the crowd that says if I chose to see a concert, I'm not ashamed of it. I ain't got the cash to blow on shit I don't like.

First concert was Blue Oyster Cult/Plasmatics...which may be embarassing for some, but I loved it. Even saw BOC play a local bar like maybe 5 years ago, although I have no idea how many of the real guys are still around.

Oh...and I saw Thompson Twins, who many people probably think are lame, but it was great and the first time I saw a concert where the instruments were primarily electronic. They were actually mostly hidden in some sort of stone looking stage set with a few percussion pieces sticking out and about that various members banged on now and then.

Enough stories...I'll stop now.

Plasmatics...

Plasmatics shows are legendary. I remember a time in 7th grade when the high school kids out with whom I hung (drum section of the marching band) went to see the Plasmatics at The Pier in NYC. I don't think this was the infamous "drive-the-caddy-into-the-river" show, but the t-shirts with which they came home were the envy of band camp.

They were pretty washed up by the time I saw 'em...unfortunately. I've seen much, much better punk shows. I would imagine they were amazing in the early days, but they were just a lame ass metal band with punk leanings by the time I saw 'em.

Aerosmith is playing a double bill with Cheap Trick here next month. The week I heard about it, I had been playing Rocks, Toys in the Attic, In Color and Heaven Tonight so my immediate thought was "Yeah, I should totally go". Then I realized it wasn't 1977 and put the bowl down.

No, you should totally go, because Cheap Trick still brings it.

It's sold out, but that was the main reason I wanted to go. I've only ever been a minor Aerosmith fan, but Cheap Trick were one of the first rock bands I ever heard and never had the chance to see them live. Also the tickets are near $100 which wasn't exactly thrilling me either.

I'd probably say the time I went and saw TLC for my (13th? 14th?) birthday. I swear, how no one knew....

I think the bassist and the drummer are not original members (I saw them several years ago, also -- no more Godzilla :( ). But Eric Bloom, Donald "Buck Dharma" Roeser and Allen Lanier are still the guitarist trifecta, it's just the Bouchards which are no longer with the band (and haven't been for a very long time ['85-'86 or thereabouts, if I read wikipedia correctly]).
