perfect Scot-Pop (fifepop?): Proclaimers - "Letter From America"

This is were I weigh in and tell you that the Proclaimers are from Leith in Edinburgh which is part of the Lothian district, not Fife which is on the other side of the Firth of Forth.

God, I'm tedious!

Not the best pop song, but the best song, the best lyrics, the best vocal, the best recording.... of all time.

Yeah, that and Jo-Boxers's "Just Got Lucky" are always mood lifters.

Agreed.

I'll throw in a vote for The Ronette's "Be My Baby". I about shit myself when I saw her do this live a few months ago.

Some of those early Beatles songs like "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" and "She Loves You" are sooooo pop. Give you cavities and shit.

It was Brent & Larry's only pop hit. Got to maybe #34 or #36. Very sweet and simple love song.

Took a while for the Supremes to make the grade, though I may pick "Baby Love", or "Love Child"

The Monkees have a few good one's like "Last Train to Clarksville" or "Daydream Believer", along with those mentioned.

Buddy Holly has a couple, like "Everyday" or "Maybe Baby"

The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony is among the most perfect recent pop songs.

and in an alternate universe these may have made the grade:

The Clash - Train in Vain
Brian Eno - St. Elmo's Fire
The Shins - New Slang
The Traffic - Feelin' Alright
Violent Femmes - I Held Her in my Arms
Velvets - Sunday Morning
Wire - Outdoor Miner

On my mind from another topic

Imperial Teen - Pig Latin

2 chord bliss which is about as poppy as it gets
