depends when you mark me as a teenager

13 = prince & the revolution, michael jackson, hall & oates, huey luey & the nuey, [someone else... maybe cyndi lauper]

19 = genesis, prince, janet, jacko, phil collins

i didn't listen to much "alternative" til college circa nirvana (20yrsofage) and didn't delve into indie until around 2000.

this explains why i suck.

early early: sublime, blink182, the ataris (in the beginning, the first two albums aren't bad), less than jake, random local ska. the beatles white album was always involved and i liked this supremes tape i used to have. this is like 13 years old.

early: it evolves into radiohead, beck, red hot chili peppers, bob dylan...but also into phish and other similar music.

after that til the nearly present (i only turned 20 in january): wilco, radiohead, beta band, clinic, talking heads, brian eno, belle and sebastian, blonde redhead, sleater-kinney

I'd have to check my old cassettes stashed at my folks but a good guess would be the following:

1 Dire Straits
2 Fleetwood Mac
3 The Doors
4 Steve Earle
5 REM

Before a love for "all music" hit, there was only the Beatles

then there was:

matchbox twenty
Third Eye Blind
Better Than Ezra
Oasis

Wow. I totally wouldn't have picked you as being younger than me (was 21 in December)

14-18 (had pretty much zero interest in music before 14)

Something For Kate
Radiohead
Sandpit
Sleater-Kinney
At the Drive-In
Avalanches
Dandy Warhols
PJ Harvey (well, Stories from the City... anyway)
first Strokes album

I actually still like all those bands too (except maybe Dandys, tho I 13 Tales is still ok)

This is tough, but I think these five were staples for the duration of my teens (13-19):

Led Zeppelin
Pearl Jam
Radiohead
STP
The Beatles

Though I didn't get into Radiohead until I was 16 (about a year after The Bends was out). It's tough to narrow this down to 5 as I can remember being almost equally into The Doors, Janes Addiction/Porno for Pyros, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Beck, The Beastie Boys, Nirvana, Wu-Tang and Jimi Hendrix in my early-to-mid teens. In my late teens I started to get into Pavement, The Flaming Lips, Stereolab, and the whole indie thing.

These would probably be my top five...

Aerosmith
Metallica
The Doors
Zeppelin
Green Day (Mainly because they were HUGE for me when I was 13/14)
