I'll listen to pretty much anything except Country (alt-country is okay), Opera and anything with Cookie Monster vocals.

You've certainly won ME over! Welcome aboard!!!

Actually, I have to limit my dislike of country to anything post-'70s that doesn't involve Dwight Yoakam. Otherwise, country is purty good. But I'm totally behind your boycott of Cookie Monster vocals!

Killers are NOT Brit-Pop and their life expectancy has already been exceeded. Maximo Park and Kaiser Chiefs, on the otherhand, have a longer life.

if you want people to like you, don't post about radiohead.

if you don't care what people think post about what you want.

You need to sign up for LooGAR's Reading Comprehension class. Yoakam is the ONLY good thing about country music since the '70s.

Are you including alt-country in this? And you don't think Johnny Cash's work on American was a good thing?

No, I'm just referring to standard country. There's LOTS of good alt-country. And Johnny Cash transcends being merely categorized as "country." I haven't heard most of his American Recordings, but he gets a free pass from me, regardless.

hyperbole hyperbole hyperbole.

I don't think this is true at all. country hasn't really caught the suck much more than any other genre. Just the Nashville charts have caught the suck, not country music in general. If you can line-dance to it, its gotta be horrible. If you can't, its got a chance to be decent.

That kind of statement is going to have you sounding like Nathan R. Johnson as grabbing things he needs from the house. All country since the 70's suck except Yoakam (he's good) and Cash cause he gets a free pass and Kristofferson he's pretty great too and Rodney Crowell ain't bad and that loretta lynn album's ok and wanda jackson's album from a few years back is pretty good and.....[insert many many more] but except for those, post 70's country sucks.

:)

As someone's son, let me tell you that he'll probably turn out worse than his father.

That's just the way that it goes. Ask my pops.

I'm not on any coast.

Oh, they're on the left coast.

Doesn't mean he'll be a bad kid, but fathers tend to be disappointed in their sons, and sons try too hard, and it's all a vicious circle that doesn't get fixed till adulthood, and only if they can get past the whole machismo bullshit.

But then again, maybe they'll turn out like Ed Harris and that kid from Milk Money.
