Nobody knows how good the Big 10 is, because they didn't play any nonconference games. Wisconsin played a high school schedule, so it is impossible to have any idea how good they are.

USC, a single team, has more nonconference wins against ranked opponents than the ENTIRE big 10 put together.

And yet, when the chips were on the line, they still couldn't beat unranked UCLA. Pathetic.

This actually works out better for the Big Ten.

With Ohio State, Michigan, and Wisconsin all playing tough teams from other conferences, they will have a chance to finally show how good they are.

If they just continued playing each other, the national championship would be a farce and we would never know how good anyone was.

if by "a farce" you mean "the two best teams in the country playing one another" then yes, I suppose you are correct.

Actually, they nearly shit the bed in that Ball State game.

I've looked at the box score three times, and I'm still trying to figure out where Ball State was within a touchdown at any significant point in the game.

This is in stark contrast to Florida, who trailed South Carolina the entire game until about 3 minutes to go in the fourth.

I put a slim victory against Spurrier and SC over a slim victory against Ball State anyday. But that 's a stupid argument anyway. Ohio St. a couple of years ago had a ton of "ugly" wins and beat a Miami team with all the "sexy" victories. Florida played a harder schedule and there's really no objective doubt about that. Coupled with the fact that Michigan has already proven to not be as good as OSU makes a sound decision to see what can Florida can do.

Florida looked mortal in about six, including near-losses to unranked teams.

That's because Florida played harder teams. Competition tends to do that. And ND & Wisconsin are sheeps in wolves clothing.

Again, How is a one point win to a team that was beating you the entire game identical to an 8 point win where you were leading by as many as 19, in your mind?

Michigan may not be as good as OSU, but OSU is going to make Florida look like a high school team. Good thing the BCS pitted the #3 team against the #1 team though, so we wouldn't have to suffer a rematch instead.

Don't even put Notre Dame in the class of Wisconsin. Notre Dame is a joke. Wisconsin is a legit team.

You havent watched a college football game all year have you? Seriously.

Legit, my ass.

Notre Dame only lost two games, both to teams playing in the BCS and beat Georgia Tech, UCLA and a bunch of the same Big 10 teams that Michigan and Wisconsin beat. They are a pretty damn good, two loss football team, not a "joke".

Speaking of making Gators look like high schoolers, did you see Rex Grossman's line today?

 Come on Bloor, I've been in every major college football thread on this site for the last three weeks. Let's not be ridiculous.

We're never going to settle this debate. You look at who a team has beaten, whereas I look at who a team has lost to

I didn't read the stat line, but I was at the game watching my team clinch a division title and the best record in the NFL to date

At least when Grossman plays like shit the team is still good enough to usually win, which I certainly can't say about a ton of other qbs/teams

How about the last 8:45 of the game when there was an eight-point difference? A touchdown and 2-point conversion ties the ballgame, and there was a chance of that actually happening. From the sportsline.com recap:

"Trailing by just eight, Cardinals quarterback Nate Davis threw incomplete on fourth-and-goal with 2:46 left and couldn't connect on a final-play desperation heave, allowing the second-ranked Wolverines to escape with a 34-26 win on Saturday."

It's not if it was the same team, but...

South Carolina: 7-5, 4th strongest schedule in the country
Ball State: 5-7, 91st strongest schedule in the country

Yet your overall Big Ten bias is obvious. If so, why are you supporting an outcome that isn't in the conference's best interests?

This whole thread is basically just people from the SEC arguing about how great the SEC is and people from the North arguing for the Big 10.

There is no point in arguing this because college football is retarded and won't have a playoff like every other decent sport in the history of man.

In the NFL, there is such parity that any team could lose to any team on any given Sunday, but nobody argues about who should have been Super Bowl champs (except whiny Seahawks fans). This is because there is a well designed playoff system. Maybe the most talented team doesn't always win, but the system is reliable and relies on head-to-head competition with the stakes clearly defined.

I will never really get into college football until they have a playoff.

That Pitt-Utah game a few years ago was probably the worst due to lack of star power and being a blowout.
Oklahoma-USC a few years ago was really bad
Nebraska-Miami not much better
Ohio State-Notre Dame last year was pretty shitty
and Notre Dame-Oregon State in the Fiesta if that was a BCS year ranks in the honorable mention

Louisville/Wake Forest will be good if it the Deacon's D shows up, it might be alot like the FSU-Penn State game last year.
I think LSU-Notre Dame has the most potential of being a blowout, although Boise State/OU is pretty suspect too.

To be fair SK, I maintain at least two to three CFB threads here all season, and you never post on any of them. If you really liked CFB, you would have taken part in the pickem.

And bring back the possibility of years like '94 and '97 where the consensus top two teams don't play each other? No thanks. This is a step in the right direction but not a final answer.

BTW comparing "close games" is almost as stupid as "they beat so and so, who beat so and so."
