what in the hell are you basing this on?

In a chicken's inability to reason.

so, assuming for a second that chickens have no sense of reasoning (which I don't believe), do those two things have anything to do with each other?

All animals feel discomfort and pain. it's not a matter of whether they can reason or not. it's a matter of whether they're physically miserable. which factory chickens are.

I grew up with farm animals. Your logic is faulty.

It's called the food chain. People that don't know/think this kind of shit is going on are just kidding themselves. If you don't want to eat chicken/meat or whatever because of this, good. More for me.

Sorry to be so insensitive, but come the fuck on you guys.

My Got, man. You're mad. Do you realize what you're saying, and where you're saying it?

Get the fuck outta Dodge, homeboy, before the words you let slip loll about the ether and get to the offices of the Daily Cardinal.

Plus, I am calling Hizzoner, da Mayor of Madison, right now. As a lifelong resident of your adopted state, and even though I hate Madison and its phony frou-frouism, I have to report you. We cannot have your kind encroaching on their decree.

Of course. Simply put, you have to have reasoning to decipher the different sensations you have. Essentially, a sensation will trigger a feeling (happiness, sadness, love etc). Also, note that sensations are caused by the chemicals in your brain. Chickens may or may not feel these sensations, but they don't have the brain capacity to decipher them (reasoning). It's what seperates man from animal. Now, explain to me how a chicken has the ability to reason?

When I was little, there was a store near here called Sam's Chicken, Bait and Memorial Works.

I assume Sam was a versatile professional.

It's the shit that bothers me the most about these massive chicken operations. There are widespread cases of contamination from manure and people have died or suffered permanent brain damage from hydrogen sulfide poisioning just from living downwind of a chicken farm.

so wait, why don't they have feelings? And how can one tell if they have reasoning when they're strapped in place for the duration of their lives? Dogs would be just as stupid in the same conditions. so would we.

Yup. Tim really is a knuckle-dragging, drunken dullard, a symbol of American myopia and hubris.

Yup.

Because they can't reason. They lack the brain capacity.

Scientific testing.

Just as you pointed out, that doesn't mean we don't have the ability to reason.

Do you want to explain to me how a chicken reasons?

I'm through being on the defensive here. If you want to explain it fine, if you don't...then don't bother asking another question.

one of you is arguing that chickens don't experience emotions and the other is arguing that chickens can feel sensations. i got beat by a chicken once at tic-tac-toe in little rock arkansas so i think that that can reason just fine.

first off jackass if the chicken can FEEL the sensations, that pretty much means they have FEELINGS, correct?

and, depending on your definition of reason, you can say that plants have reasoning. Natural instinct can be seen as reasoning. The ability of a species to thrive for thousands of years can be deduced as reasoning. Just because we have been able to genetically coerce countless generations of them into being weaker and fatter and stupider does not mean that they cannot reason that getting their head sliced off while hanging upside-down with everyone they've ever known is fucking scary. That's why there are chickens that manage to dodge said blade and survive until the dismembering process in the lines.
