awesome to see someone here not from brooklyn who likes them! you should check out the drummer's other band, the depreciation guild. </promo>

Anyone not from Brooklyn? You're the first person I've encountered not from England that's even heard of them.

That said, their debut is probably my most-anticipated album of the year. Thankfully it's out February via Slumberland.

well, considering alex/kurt are friends of mine.... and they usually play the cake shop/glasslands scene here in ny, i was surprised someone in canada knew them... which is great!

and they did a couple of tours in the uk with the manhattan love suicides so i'm sure that's how their uk following came to be. plus the tour they're on now w/the wedding present, that is HUGE for them.

After that amazing Tim Armstrong solo disc, I'm curious to see what direction they take... if it's gonna be more rocksteady like his album, of if it's a reaction to it and they careen off into hardcore like they did on the 2000 s/t.

Well tell them to come to Canada then. Specifically Toronto. Specifically a show with The Airfields, maybe?

The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart sound like a nice shoegazey band, but I don't think they're doing anything groundbreaking. They're good at what they do, but don't impress me further than that. I'd rather listen to something from the "golden" era of that music, of which TPOBPAP would fit nicely had it come out in the late 80s/early 90s.

Prefab Sprout has a new one coming out next year. I don't have high expectations but it will still be an automatic purchase.

I don't know that the following have anything new in the works but I hope so:

Lloyd Cole
Joe Henry
Max de Castro
Maximilian Hecker
Nicolai Dunger (what's taking so long?)
Frank Black
Norman Blake
Archer Prewitt
Jay Farrar/Son Volt
Pernice Brothers
John Doe

Shoegaze? I consider them much more in the indiepop camp of groups like The Manhattan Love Suicides or Comet Gain.

What do they have released so far? Just the one 7"?

hmm, i think they just have two splits - one with Off With Their Heads and one with the Chinese Telephones.

another split with Toys That Kill will be out at some undetermined time, and '09 will see their full length as well.

a brand new song is on the Fest 7 comp which you can d/l for free somewhere...the no idea website or something like that...

TTK has a new full length coming out? The Fest song will be on a split with Grabass Charlestons.
