hey guys look, it's Mr. Unhappy #2.

I'm tempted to make a snide comment back but I won't.

All I meant is normally I just ignore bands and threads about bands that I don't really like. I constantly find myself wanting to like Wilco though. I bought SBS against my better judgement and initially thought it was pleasant enough. It had no staying power though. I really haven't liked anything they've done since "Being There" but I find it hard to ignore them nonetheless. I'd like to just ignore this thread but I'm still curious. All it will probably take though is one "meh" from someone with somewhat similar taste though to sap my interest.

why not just stream the album from their site and make up your own mind? it's not a very long album....

Epically Fucking MEH.

Better in concept than delivery. That's actually worthy of its own thread. Bands Who Should be Better Than They Actually Are.

Dude I'm loving this album so far. This is the first time I've listen to a Wilco album the first time though and been like..."Oh yeah, this is good" since YHF.

I like songs.

I've now listened to it 5 times, and its really good. I'm hoping for the same treatment for this album as SBS--DVD+vinyl+cd packaging.

I quite liked it as well. Plus, a totally great album length at 42 min.

I don't hear the Summerteeth at all but it is good. Nels Cline might inspire me to buy (or build) a Jazzmaster.

FACTS:

YHF is my least favourite album of theirs.

Wilco is not -- and should not strive to be -- an experimental band.

This is good.

at least they're honest about it:

Quote:
Well, we made it nearly a month with copies of Wilco (the album) floating around out there before it leaked. Pretty impressive restraint in this day and age. But the inevitable happened last night. Since we know you're curious and probably have better things to do than scour the internet for a download (though we do understand the attraction of the illicit), we've posted a stream of the full album at http://wilcoworld.net/records/thealbum/ . Feel free to refer to it as "wilco (the stream)" if you must.

We also have our usual guilt abatement plan for downloaders. If you have downloaded the record, we suggest you make a donation to one of the band's favorite charities, the Inspiration Corporation -- an organization we've supported in the past & who are doing great work in the city of Chicago. Information and donation button here: http://inspirationcorp.org/.

That's all. Enjoy the stream. Tickets for summer shows, etc. http://wilcoworld.net/tours/ Note that we'll be holding a free online midnight screening of the "Ashes of American Flags" film this Friday night (at both midnight US Central time and again at midnight Pacific). So get the popcorn or whatever together and be sure to log on and tune in on Friday.

also, for those who are buying the physical stuff, their website now has pre-orders up.

YHF isn't experimental at all. I mean, compared to experimental music. that is a fact.

I know.

I mean, I had to read about it being "experimental" before I "realised"...

I think when writers and the band refer to it as "experimental" it refers to in context of their catalog.

YHF and AGIB are my favorites of their albums. Their other albums I dig and listen to frequently but I skip around. Those 2, I usually listen straight through.
