Well, no, not in the least. But I was drunk when I posted "fuck fucking Radiohead". I'm relatively sober now. Fuck fucking Radiohead.

On the basis of self-selected criteria grabbed from the glob included, I'm gonna have to say Kings of Leon.

Although their cultural impact is limited to the last few years, they remain my choice.

I thought we did this with albums.

Regardless, for me it's gotta be Jack White.

He might be my choice if only for his work with The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, and Dead Weather. But add in his producing work with Loretta Lynn, The Von Bondies, The Greenhornes, etc and it's a no brainer.

The guy was one of the best rock stars of the decade. He played with image and the media like few people these days are willing to do.

One of the few people from the early 2000's that I still look forward to seeing what they'll do next.

Look, the new Kings of Intellect showed up.

The point is that Jack White has created music that is not only artistic and creative but has also crossed a weird pop culture line and become an international sporting chant. Pretty cool I think.

Plus, any dude who's managed to have a radio hit with a song as weird as "Icky Thump" is cool by me.

Spoon, The National and The Drones had the strongest musical output of the decade in my estimation.

Though it's hard to give it to any of those.

Few people this decade had the combined fortitude of widespread appeal and quality music. So it could be said that no one of real worth truly connected with the general public. Of the truly enormous rock bands to emerge this decade -- Muse, Kings of Leon, The Killers, Coldplay, etc -- none are making music that's particularly vital.

On the flip side, few people who made anything of quality have been able to channel that into widespread appeal and quantifiable success.

I think a good compromise between the two is someone like Jack White. He ran a great business while also putting out good music. He left his stamp on popular culture. Spoon didn't.

John Frusciante....he was absolutely prolific in the 00's. Released 7 albums in 2004 alone, and the majority of them are great, and they all at least of have great moments. Its an inspirational story too, he came out of hiding from the public in the 90s bc of drug abuse and mental illness, and then came back and brought the RHCPs back to fine form in the late 90's and started a remarkable solo career as well.

Jack White is a complete weirdo coexisting and co-opting in the mainstream (not just the indie mainstream but THE mainstream like my parents)- how can you not appreciate that?

I had a big huge post written about how it's Radiohead, but it wasn't that great. So, my choice is definitely Radiohead.

I don't understand how any continent likes The Drones...they were awful when I went to check them out.

Metacritic actually said the overall best artist of the decade is Spoon, which is pretty cool I guess. Also generally unbiased since they aggregate reviews.

I love the drones. But then I am neither a continent, nor incontinent.

not that they really impress me all that much anymore but animal collective is a pretty solid choice

radiohead not so much anymore

the jack white argument is a strong one

liars or boris would be personal choices
