the nfl has definitely gotten what they wanted in terms of league parity, but if you ask me it has taken the seltzer out of the big game. give me 2 dominant teams facing off or a david v goliath matchup any day. sure it was a close game, but neither of those teams impressed me.
Neither team played great games, I'll give you that...
but, I can't comprehend how Rodgers was not impressive. Mendenhal impressed me too. Aside from an outstanding play by Matthews forcing that fumble...dude had a great game. You just sound like a bitter fan whose team wasn't good enough to get to the super bowl can't accept that any other team is good.
i am not saying that neither team has good players. they both have a couple guys on both sides of the ball who i would love to have in new england. i'm just saying that the league feels more like a lottery it ever has. any of the playoff teams (save for the seahawks maybe) had about as good a chance as any other at winning this thing. that makes for an exciting tournament because there are no sure things, but the conclusion strikes me as unsatisfying because the trophy seems to just get passed from team to team. there's no sense that there's a new sheriff in town because to win you have to go through some dominant team. most sports are still that way and i think it's a shame the nfl isn't.
as a pats fan, i have taken great pleasure in the fact that the pats got 3, including 2 in a row in this era because the league is pretty much set up to discourage continued excellence. have to tip the cap to the steelers and to a lesser extent the colts in this regard too. but when i read an aaron rodgers quote that says 'let's get another one,' i am looking at that and thinking it's like hitting a big scratch ticket and saying 'i am going to buy another one of those!'
i wouldn't say that i am bitter my team didn't win. i think they threw away a great opportunity, but i am also pretty pleased with their situation in the draft and with a young team that outperformed expectations. they gave me 14 happy sundays, how can i complain. but to watch the semifinals feature 4 teams, all of which my team beat, 2 of them by 30+... you can't blame me that impressed by any of the 'elite' teams. more likely than not, next year's packers will be this year's saints.
