yah. oh man, that reporter... I just don't even know what to say. I'm just hoping it won't reappear in a Lynch-like nightmare tonight.

Haha, I should cut it together with the Twin Peaks dream sequences.

I honestly had NO CLUE the Grammys were on last night, and I'm in the music business.

I didn't watch last night, but enjoyed this choice overheard conversation before class:

girl: "Why didn't Justin Bieber win an award? He's so popular."
guy: "Yeah, who is the Arcade Fire anyway? No one's ever heard of them."
girl: "I thought Eminem should have won. People listen to him."
guy: "At least there weren't a lot of country artists performing..."

i imagine similar conversations in every workplace/school in america. the ladies in my office have been trying to figure out who the guy with the piano and muppets is. "cee cee, cee dee?"

were there really less country performances than in the past?

Pretty cool that Grammy's also went to:

The Black Keys - 3, no less!!!
Them Crooked Vultures
Neil Young
Mavis Staples
Jon Stewart
Lewis Black
The White Stripes

and

Big Star (sort of) - Best Liner Notes for their compilation

Sounds exactly like a stroke, or at least what someone sounds like after having a stroke. It's really sad. Met with a guy at work the other day who was in the dissertation phase of his program and had a stroke and is fully cognizant of the fact that what he wants to say doesn't come out as the right words. It is crazy.

Feel bad for that reporter. God knows what happened.

Sort of lost in the WTF-ness of Dylan's "performance" is that the Avett's were really fucking good. I've always been pretty meh on their records but that live special that's been airing on Palladium has turned me into half a fan and made me reconsider. I'm so emo.

Honestly, I can't think of anything I saw that was out and out terrible, but I was sort of intermittently paying attention and went to sleep after Jagger.

Wait, I just remembered: Muse was terrible.

I didn't know he was going to be on, or I might have pried my eyes away from the "Hard Time" and "Women in Prison" marathons on National Geographic.

The Hard Time thing was about prisons in Georgia, and was absolutely fucked up and fascinating.

I guess I can find a youtube or something of Jagger - did he actually perform?

I saw a lot of complaints about Paltrow's singing...I didn't think it was that bad. I mean, she's not supposed to be a singer, is she?

My wife despises them for whatever reason so I made up a song where I basically sing the words "Lady Antebellum" over and over just to annoy the shit out of her.

I've been a fan but their live show was an eye opener. They were great but the thing that took me back was how many rabid fans they have and how many crowd interaction quirks some of the songs elicit. Like, screams or well timed claps from the audience during very specific parts of specific songs.

Very jam band-y kind of following for sure.

Sadly, both of the main dudes in that band graduated from UGA.

Their success is strange to me. I don't follow country radio but every award they've received has recognized that one huge hit they had and not the album (I think). Be curious if they have all this success and then totally bomb the next go 'round without another "Need You now".

Going from Mick Jagger to Barbara Streisand was a little like bicycling at top speed for a few minutes and then hitting a brick wall.

Coolest moment from last night was Esperanza Spalding winning "Best New Artist". There's hope....
