The Coctails - The Coctails
Archer Prewitt's pre-Sea and Cake band. Although, this album was made while he was splitting time between the two entities. That could explain why this is maybe the weakest entry into the band's catalog. Still, that said, it's worth listening to if you are a TSAC fan. Mines the same vein, although not quite as deeply. It's the band's last album before their final breakup and brief reunion in 2000 to say goodbye to Lounge Ax and play the final show there.

Collects a few classics and then a whole bunch of tracks from some of the best BritPop bands of the day: Pulp, Blur, Elastica, Primal Scream, including several that were otherwise unreleased.
A nice little compact snapshot of the rock music coming out of the UK in 1996.

TRACKLISTING
Lust for Life - Iggy Pop
Deep Blue Day - Brian Eno
    Trainspotting - Primal Scream
    Atomic - Sleeper
    Temptation - New Order
    Nightclubbing - Iggy Pop
    Sing - Blur
    Perfect Day - Lou Reed
    Mile End - Pulp
1For What You Dream Of [Full On Renaissance Mix] - Bedrock, KYO
    2:1 - Elastica
    A Final Hit - Leftfield
    Born Slippy [Nuxx] - Underworld
    Closet Romantic - Damon Albarn

The Trainspotting Soundtrack was huge for me at the time. Still think it's pretty solid.

Odelay was a fixture, too. I burned myself out on it at the time, but I've since been able to come back to it and really enjoy it again.

sublime, really? and you make fun of the rest of us...

I don't think BG (or anybody else) needs to qualify liking Sublime (especially at the time). Easy to see them as a played out radio band now, but they were great in their time.

My favorites from the year:

Dusk At Cubist Castle
Los Lobos - Colossal Head (a top 3 LL record for me)
Being There
Lyle's The Road To Ensenada

...and a few others previously mentioned. I was 21, the world was my oyster.

Yeah, Mic City Sons and Telephono! Have no idea why people hate on Telephono. Great songs there.

Fuck yeah great. Really, there's hatred out there for that album? Damn I love it and it spawned one of my favorites on the Soft Effects, Waiting for the Kid to Come Out. Easily my top 5 songs of all Spoon.
