Question to the Philly fans...what's the weather like over there? Is the game on tonight?

you are all insane. we don't have one redneck on this board, believe me we'd all know. constantly. I get defensive sometimes and it was only partially justified and in misunderstanding.
the ATL+ guys are all good people, they just say some pretty outlandish shit sometimes. It happens, stick up for yourself if you want to but it's not worth complaining about someone else speaking their mind.

don't you love this time of year? i was at work yesterday and we got a soaking rain for like an hour. I get home--nothing.

my dad lives less than 10 miles away from me but gets PISSED because I happen to get more of the popcorn showers than him. Read: he has to run his sprinklers more.

you guys get it worse than us (or at least the coast did), but yeah this is the best time of year, when a weeks worth of heat is purged in 15 minutes of torrential downpour.

i was using "best" loosely if only because the downpours are followed by the 95% humidity that will suck your soul out....

But at least its not cold, right?

Thank you sir. Yail and I have built a cottage industry on saying outlandish shit..it's what we do.

Chris -- since when does me saying you were a beret equate to me calling you a fag? If I wanted to do that I would. I have zero problem with your sexual preference, but you may, considering you thought this was a not so veiled reference to it.

888 -- This is how we talk. In real life. always have. It's funny. You're not. Get over it.

Listen, you rednecks can't just come into the city, see the Liberty Bell, eat a cheesesteak, walk down South St. for half an hour and then leave. And then talk shit about the city on the board.

After moving to Philly last year, I'm glad I don't live in NYC (aside from not having a good subway)

No, no one here thinks this is NYC, but yeah, I do get a general feeling that Philly has a bit of an inferiority complex and wishes it was NYC.

There are lots of things that bug me about Philly. its mostly either SEPTA (shitty public transport) or the fact that it's in Pennsylvania- no disrespect to the other PA residents here, but you gotta admit PA is a backwards-ass state, especially for being in the "north." (Hence the nickname Pennsyl-tucky.) And aside from center city, parts of west and south philly, and a few other neighborhoods, most of philly is actually kind of shitty.

But, I do like living here overall. I think center city Phila is pretty unique- not too many other American cities have what we do (aside from the business districts, center city is almost entirely made up of well-kept 19th century rowhomes. an area of about 10-20 blocks north to south, by 25 blocks east to west). It's a cool place to live.

But, am I thinking of moving to Chicago or NY next year? yes.

having travelled around the country, my wife and I have come to the conclusion that the crappiest cities to visit are Houston and Atlanta. For smaller towns - Ok City wins the prize. (never been to Detroit or Cleveland)

Philly seemed ok to me.

Just curious, what are you basing that on? Atlanta, I mean?

This whole thing seems like a pissing contest anyway. The bottom line is, most major cities have a great deal of culture and stuff to get into. If you have a good group of friends to run with you can have fun anywhere. My friends and I could have fun in a wet paper bag if you feed us booze.

My friends and family are in ATL and I can see art, music, sports, any night of the week and there are some great restaurants. It's also an hour away from my church, Sanford Stadium, where church services convene on fall Saturdays in Athens. This works for me as I'm sure others cities work for them.

Oh and Kid Dynamite, watch who you're calling a redneck. What are you basing that on anyway because as near as I can tell nobody has gone "redneck" here. Is it simply because we're from the South?

Thanks for the stereotype dickhead.

Eat shit.

With love,

RD

i just don't like cities in the south very much - too friggin hot/humid and dirty. if I did have to live in a big city in the south though, Atl would probably be the best one...maybe Dallas.

rparis -- By your city pics, I wil surmise that one thing you (and I) don't like about H-Town and ATL is: YOU CAN'T GET ANYWHERE WITHOUT A CAR. Even in Philthy you can take a train to 30th St...and then hop a cab wherever you want to go. DC has the Metro, and NYC is NYC and even Boston has whatever that impossible to navigate sries of rat tunnels is called.

ATL has some pretty cool stuff if you look around. Carter Center and King Center, Sweet Auburn, hell even the Cyclorama and crap like that.

I have no bef with Philly, have never had a bad time there, I just like to talk shit about mooks like y'all love calling us rednecks.

one thing I didn't notice in Atlanta were rednecks really. i've lived in the north and south and trust me, there are plenty of northern rednecks - i saw plenty in jersey. most of the entire west coast is redneck.

For as shitty as you guys say SEPTA is, it's still the 6th best public transport in the country, behind:

behind

NYCS
Chicago L
Boston T
BART
DC Metro

in one day i was able to figure out how to get all over San Fransisco.
i still don't know how the buses work in my neighborhood, and i have to walk for at least 15-20 minutes to get to any one subway stop.

I'm not sure what "6th best" means (coverage area, maybe?), but in terms of effeciency, it's terrible. the el/subway is good only for getting somewhere on Market or Broad. And if you're not going to Penn, going to work along Market, or not going to Temple or a Phillies game, it's pointless. Basically, it's set up for commuters, not really getting around the city, b/c it goes to so few parts of the city. I know all of those systems mentioned in that list (with the exception of BART, which I've never used) have subway/el systems that are good for actually getting around the city. And SEPTA is the 2nd most expensive to use, behind BART.

Yeah, SEPTA has lots of buses, but they are always stuck in traffic and horribly unreliable. If I had a job where someone would care if I was late, I'd be screwed b/c I often take the bus (and I'm often late b/c of it).

To me, good public transit means a good subway/el system. A city of Philly's size should have much better than it does. It's actually kind of pathetic.

bart was good when I lived in SF but the muni trains stop running way too early - many times I was left with the late night bus routes - and that sucks ass.
