The irony is that, when I first started posting at CMJ, I was accused of hating everything.

As long as its not too far in any one direction (too pretentious or pretty, too heavy, too poppy, too ghetto, too a-musical, etc.) yeah, i'm pretty much down with just about anything. That's why I love this board----you guys are always surprising me with something new.

Oh, and Steve, I agree with the Sen.: I typically always dig your NP's----they are usually the same shit that I listen to.

Edit: And I dont know how surprised y'all would be, but I listen to a lot more jazz than you might imagine....

At this point, I've professed my love for: Tom Zé, Hanson, Martin Newell, Iron Maiden, and Hank Williams. Can I really shock anybody here anymore?

I'll try:
Def Leppard

Yeah, I like 'em. At least, everything before Hysteria.

Not really. Now if you told me you were listening to Gimme Fiction I'd be shocked.

For what it's worth, here's ten classical pieces everyone should own:

Beethoven: Symphony #9
Beethoven: Symphony #5
Dvorak: Symphony #9 (The New World)
Mahler: Symphony #1 (The Titan)
Berlioz: Symphonie Fantastique
Debussy: La Mer
Mussorgsky: Pictures At An Exhibition
Holst: The Planets
Tchaikovsky: Overture 1812
Borodin: Polovtsian Dances
Your diet is a little "rich" -- I recommend some chamber music (pretty much anything by Schubert will do -- Trout Quintet, Death and the Maiden, Piano Trio in E flat), or perhaps some solo piano -- the Nocturnes by Chopin, for example.

Although I don't post much, I consider myself a regular... Soundtracks, especially ones with strong and powerful instrumental pieces really get my juices flowing.

Perhaps this should be in the thread of crap you like, but Judas Priest's "Turbo Lover" and Iron Maiden's "Peice of Mind" are constants in my life.

I guess chic music in general... Portishead, Mazzy Star, Ani Difranco, Beth Orton, Bjork, Cat Power, Nico, etc. A girl's voice just hits certain vibes no guy ever could.

I don't know? I like Tom Petty. Is that wrong?

I was watching vh1-classic the other day (surprise!), and they were playing some early Petty video. I was shocked at how much it reminded me of Spoon.

Do you hear the "Sister Jack" + "Listen To Her Heart" similarity, or should I go ahead and have myself committed?

Yes/No. I don't own anything Petty (except Wilburys), but I'm thinking of digging into back catalogue stuff.

He's not bad, but not particularly ground breaking either. Very listenable, and I like a good chunk of his stuff, though I only own the Greatest Hits I lifted from someone.
