Search didn't really do it for me, nor am I re-scrolling thru these 21 pages, but has anything from the 'Cults' leaked yet?

new kurt vile is awesome.

It's pretty good, but I discovered last night that he is yet another artist whose albums I enjoy but their live show sucks. I've seen Kurt + Violators twice in the last year and left early from both shows.

However, Pujol was killer last night...

This is my bloglist.

Cheers for the others, quite a few that I've added.

I heard it was supposed to be all new...their first such record since 1999.

Good article in Sunday's Star Ledger, if interested;

A little NJ-biased, maybe, but still...

I just saw they had a new one out and come to post but saw this post. It's disappointing that Mike Mesaros is not longer with them because his bass playing is boss. I have not heard the music yet.

i won't disagree. i think it's a bit blown out of proportion. war on drugs i find to be comparable to vile, and they're really good live!

Yeah, I'm not loving the Kurt Vile album. "Jesus Fever" is a great song, though.

I'm about 2/3 through and it sounds really good so far.

It’s been nearly four years since post-rock animals Battles released Mirrored, their beloved debut album. And after plenty of speculation and intra-band drama, the band is finally set to release follow-up Gloss Drop on June 7 in North America and a day earlier in the rest of the world via Warp.

It’s Battles’ first album as a trio, following the departure of big-haired multi-instrumentalist Tyondai Braxton last year. And, this time around, they’ve recruited a few guests to fill in on vocals: synthpop hero Gary Numan, Boredoms cult leader Yamantaka Eye, Blonde Redhead singer Kazu Makino, and Kompakt Records disco dude Matias Aguayo. We recently spoke with guitarist-bassist Dave Konopka about the new album– click here to read that. The Gloss Drop tracklist is below:

01 Africastle
02 Ice Cream [ft. Matias Aguayo]
03 Futura
04 Inchworm
05 Wall Street
06 My Machines [ft. Gary Numan]
07 Dominican Fade
08 Sweetie & Shag [ft. Kazu Makino]
09 Toddler
10.Rolls Bayce
11 White Electric
12 Sundome [ft. Yamantaka Eye]

didn't finish my first listen, so not really an apt opinion, but it definitely wasn't clicking for me. not nearly as cohesive as mirrored.

LOVING this.

Shabazz Palaces – Black Up - 2011

Image

Forthcoming on Sub Pop:

Black Up is the new sonic move from Shabazz Palaces. Like rich velvet hijabs or gold threaded abayas. Luxury as understood by the modest. Shabazz Palaces. If Bedouins herded beats instead of goats and settled in Seattle instead of the Atlas Mountains, this would be their album. Forward thinkers but nostalgic for a sparer time when ancient astronomers only recognized five planets. Hip hop. Black light uses electromagnetic radiation to eradicate microorganisms, but shabazz didn’t come to kill a sound, just to shine their own incandescent lamp on this. Hear. Hard and clear. Fifty thousand years in the making. Honorable.—palaceer pink gators. Produced by Knife Knights.plcrs at Gunbeat Serenade Studio in Outplace Palacelands. It was recorded and mixed in Lixx-alog by Blood.

"Great" might even be overstating it a bit for that song. It's good, though.

Listening to it for the first time now. A little over halfway through, and I'm really liking it. Definitely more varied and slightly higher-fi than their debut which I liked a lot. Still very retro-sounding, perhaps even more. Seems like they're got more in the way of melodies and hooks this time around.

last year's shake the shackles 7" is still a favorite in my house. thanks for the heads up, seafoam - downloading this record now.

This is my worry with this album. There's part of me that wants to be really excited about it--but I just have a feeling I am going to be severely disappointed. Actually, I don't even know if it would be disappointment though, as ever since word that Ty (who is, in my opinion, probably the single most gifted person in music these days--see his Central Market record for evidence of this--shit's brilliant) was no longer with them I have just assumed that most of the elements that made Mirrored a near perfect record in my opinion would be absent on this one.

As such, I still haven't listened to this and not sure when I actually will, y'alls initial thoughts don't give me much hope though.

On first listen, and love. a bit "poppy" and dig the synths a lot. opener "China Town" was particularly excellent.
