I was pulling for Portugal, especially after their nasty match with Dutch and playing without Deco. They have been playing a better tournament overall. England was incredibly mediocre and was really lucky to get here.
Plus, with the crappy american finish, I couldn't stomach the brits in the final.

I thought Portugal were very poor. They consistantly tried to play through the middle of a masssed England defence and when they did get wide they were putting in crosses from 20 yards out when they had space to go to the by line. That's garbage.

We've had some good goals but in my opinion this has been the worst Finals since 1990. The general standard of play and player has been the definition of mediocre.

Oh, and that's the worst England team I've ever seen at a World Cup. They didn't kick a ball from start to finish. The fact that they nearly made the semi final tells you everything you need to know about these Finals.

Portugal certainly didn't do much to look dangerous against England... but I thought England played such mediocre football, it would have been kinder if they had gone out earlier.

This is probably an American perspective, but on the PK's it seemed like England was shooting to prevent losing, and Portugal was shooting to win.

And Rooney deserved the red card. He intentionally stepped on the Portugese player twice.

Suprise, suprise. Yeah i think we had the better of that portugal side. I agree that we have not played very well in the tournament but i look at just one man, Mr. Eriksson for that. We comfortably beat a Paraguay side that beat and drew with the argies in qualifying. We completely outplayed an Ecuador side that was lauded as one of the highlights of the opening rounds, attacking wise. You said yourself that you fancied England to progress similar to Greece in the euro's.

We pretty much controlled a team that had attacking options from the likes of Ronaldo & Figo.

I don't think this a 'poor' world cup at all. It's what i expected. An extremely tight quarter finals, a chess match, where teams are very cautious of pushing too far. Same as every tourney.

Again i hope i am alive to see Scotland the next time they qualify.

Although I would sort of dread an all-euro final, I feel like I need to cheer for the French. I've always cheered for the Irish when they make it, but haven't always been the kindest to the other half of my ancestry. Plus, Brazil wins all the time and the French looked awful last cup and at times during this cup.
With Ronaldo having the record, it would be nice to see Zidane go out on top or at least make the semis.

nah, i actually think france played good football against spain, and have been bit of a fan since then

Agreed, probably a very subjective judgement... but they looked nervous, whereas Portugal looked determined. In the close-up of Hargreaves hands as he was placing the ball... he was trembling.

I'm very depressed right now. I feel like I understand how every liberal felt when Bush won the last election. I don't quite understand how France actually won. I can't say that Brazil deserved to win this game, yet I can' t really take solace in that they were outplayed either. If Ghana had won, I could tip the cap to them but not here. I generally feel like this was a victory for boring 1-0, stay back on defense and hope for one goal type of futbol/soccer, and I hate that more than I even hate Brazil losing. I don't think I'm gonna even bother watching the semi finals and if Portugal's not in the finals, I won't bother watching those either. I really don't understand how anyone who doesn't live in France or isn't a French native could be happy with this result. Everyone left other than Portugal is BORING with a capital B O R I N G.
