Ok, I thought maybe I was the only one who used it regularly.

Postmersh, paper and Flying Rabbit were at the top of my compatibility list and I ended up stealing from their lists a lot.

Cotton, I think they completely nixed it sometime this month after having thrown it to the bottom of the page a few months ago.

For awhile you could still access it at the bottom of the site.

Even if you go in through a backdoor link, its closed down which is really a bummer. Wish you had a address you could give out so people could see yr ratings/lists. Someone should develop a website that does that.

I haven't watched any in awhile. Wait, I watched City of the Dead the other day.

wait, it used to show you what friends thought if you went to that movie page, like if I was at the Star Wars page, it would say "Friend A love this" or whatever. It no longer does that?

This was great for a few reasons, Lana Turner is smoking hot, the supporting actors are brilliant the best being Hume Cronyn, and It's a perfect noir setup and story. It has it's flaws and there is some silliness at the end, but it's worth watching just for Turner. B+

Really good thriller, solid A-

Should have seen this long ago, creepy as hell...not sure if I'll bother with the sequels or the remake, but I was glad I watched this. B+

also, just finished the first in that Red Riding trilogy, it was good.

Probably in my Top 10 for the year... good movie.

just saw the trailer for the Americanized Let the Right One In. It looks like they sterilized the shit out of it.

oh, I forgot, have any of you ever seen The Changeling with George C. Scott? I'd never heard of it, but it was a really good early 80s-type horror/thriller.

Nope.

Early reviews have said that its too 80s. That every scene pretty much has to have Culture Club or some 80s song playing in the background. They also said that had they not seen the original, this would've been amazing. Acting is apparently a strong suit for the film. Early interviews with the filmmakers said that they were delving deeper into the book, but from the reviews I've read, they've pretty much retreaded the original film. I'll probably go see it, but I'm going in with a chip on my shoulder.

I can see plenty of themes from the original freaking American audiences the fuck out.

Isn't that a good thing for a horror movie?

I don't think I'm gonna bother with the American version.

I'm going to see it simply because I'm curious. The original had such an amazing atmosphere, and the landscape/buildings so wonderfully conveyed the 80s without blatantly saying such. I want to see how they do so in a New Mexico setting. From reading the initial reviews it sounds like they bludgeon you over the head with songs and "Reagan speeches on tv". Still, as I said curiosity has taken over the wheel.

Let Me In has been getting good reviews. i'll see it.

i think i watched The Changeling awhile ago. i don't really remember a lot about it but i gave it 4 stars on netflix so i guess i liked it.

i'm about to watch a movie with the most ridiculous premise.

Burning Bright
2009 PG-13 90 minutes

After her lousy stepfather (Garret Dillahunt) steals her savings to buy a vicious tiger, Kelly (Briana Evigan) loses all hope of going to college. But Kelly's situation worsens when a hurricane leaves her and her autistic brother boarded up in their house with the man-eating beast. This edge-of-your-seat thriller follows the gutsy heroine and her younger sibling as they struggle to outwit the ravenous predator and find a way to survive.

Garret Dillahunt was great in Deadwood.

Buried. i wanted to like this. the premise is promising. but the execution is flawed: 1) the score is distracting. everyone who thought inception's score was overbearing will probably hate this more; 2) there is one phone call, in particular, that is so ridiculous it completely took me out of it. i could not fathom the motivation of either character on the line; 3) the hook is that every frame is of what's happening in the coffin. yet the way it's shot really opens up the space. (or maybe i can handle claustrophobia really well.)

i've still never watched Deadwood. he was in the remake of Last House On The Left.

but this movie was a lot better than it had any right to be. the first half hour or so was a little boring and mostly there to set up the rest of the film but once the action begins it's great. it's like cujo X 1000 in a house, minus the extremely annoying kid.

This was amazing. I'll admit, I really, really love old-time music or whatever people are calling it nowadays. This is music that is seemingly simple, but communicates a range of emotions. Louie Bluie was Terry Zwigoff's first film, and its fitting since he was a big fan of the era and style of music. In the mid-80s its hard to imagine that many people cared about these guys, but somehow Zwigoff tracked down Howard Armstrong and cohorts (who happen to be pretty prolific in their own rights), and craft not only a document of these men, but also of historical importance. Many of you have probably seen Zwigoff's incredible R.Crumb doc, so when I heard that Criterion was releasing both that, and the until recently lost doc of Louie Bluie, I got really excited. Howard Armstrong is one of those charismatic old bluesman who have an anecdote for every situation, and is hilarious throughout. Highly recommended.

Also, found this blog/site(?) with some incredible rare films. http://www.worldscinema.com

Going to dl this from there at some point:
A Well Spent Life (1972)
Quote:
Many people consider Texas bluesman Mance Lipscomb to be the greatest blues guitarist and songster of all time. This glowing portrait of the legendary musician (also life-long husband and sharecropper) is among Blank's special masterworks. Instead of growing bitter, tough times made Lipscomb sweet. The favorite film of Kurt Vonnegutt, Jr.

I went to a movie theater for the first time in more than a year. We saw The Town, and it was pretty damned good. Cynical hate every movie gar had to stop himself from tearing it apart as Heat+State of Grace+ Good Will Hunting, but once I didn't allow myself to go down that path it was thoroughly enjoyable. And even though John Hamm's constant 2 day stubble would NEVER fly on a real FBI agent, I was glad to see that he did not simply play Don Draper The Fed.

i saw the town today too. it was really good. jeremy renner pretty much stole the movie, especially in the latter half. i'd say it's probably as good as the departed, which i deduct points from since it's a remake. better than gone baby gone and it reminded me a lot of the friends of eddie coyle but maybe it's because i just watched that.

i also saw devil which was actually better than i thought it was going to be. the opening scenes of the Philadelphia skyline upside down looked really awesome and creepy.

I guess I'll see The Town if its recommended here though I hate the Aflac with a passion.

I'm kinda curious about Devil too but I wanted to wait and hear what others thought about it first. That last movie he did was such a shitstorm of badness.

After a big presentation this week in my Contemporary American Literature class this week, I've been pretty much doing a movie binge this weekend in a (semi) successful attempt to unwind.

North By Northwest
Cool little Hitchcock title about mistaken identity.
4/5

Hell Ride
Tarantino/grindhouse wanna-be without doing anything good.
1/5

Bonnie and Clyde
Fun romp through a fictionalized portrayal of the criminals who captivated America.
4/5

Dr. Strangelove, or how I stopped worrying and learned to love the bomb
Kubrick is always interesting, even when he fails. This, though, is a black comedy success.
4.5/5

Resident Evil
I'd seen it once before and was pleasantly surprised that it was better than I remembered.
3.5/5

Let the Right One In
A masterpiece film. Totally engaging, unpredictable, and a new favorite. Can't believe they're remaking it.
5/5

The NeverEnding Story
Seen once or twice as a kid, but didn't remember anything other than some scattered scenes. Neat little fairy tale.
3.5/5

I agree - especially because you were on edge just waiting to see what Renner's character would do next.

"If it goes wrong, I'm holding court out there in the street" will go down as a great movie line.

I forgot about The Departed parallels, but I kind of chalked that up to the setting.

I also enjoyed The Town, which really was a tour de force for Renner. Enjoyed seeing The Man in Black from Lost make an appearance.

m. night only produced it and it's based on a story from him. it was written by brian nelson (hard candy, 30 days of night) and directed by john erick dowdle (the poughkeepsie tapes, quarantine).
