Kinda funny that, for the first time in a long while, the Bears have an actual NFL-caliber QB. And, as soon as he steps on the field in a Bears uniform, he becomes a high school second-stringer.

High hopes down the shitter.

Yeah, I think the Pro Bowlers who are also in the SB will sit.

During the Miami/Pitt game yesterday the commish addressed that. He said, obviously players can't be punished for not playing, but he hoped everyone would. He said that there are plans to make the pro bowl count for something in the future. He dropped "draft picks" in there somewhere, which I have no idea how that would work. I doubt whatever teams are in the sb will let their players in. As Gumbel said--if someone is sore about losing in the playoffs...

He's an idiot then. Smells of a guy who has the best sports product in the world but just can't help himself and feels the need to tweak things unnecessarily. The Pro Bowl guys should be selected, had a photo taken of them all, and be done with it. Cancel the actual game altogether.

He also talked about the practice of sitting starters in the final games when one team has nothing to play for (ie-has playoff spot locked up). He started talking about draft picks or some incentive to give teams who comply with keeping their starters in, etc. to "preserve the integrity of the regular season".

This is just flat out ridiculous.

Giants took an even more egregious dive yesterday.

That was the worst Bengals performance I have ever witnessed.

Its disappointing that we didn't make the playoffs but the truth is, with all the injuries we would probably be a first round exit anyways. I give the team and the coaches a lot of credit though for pulling out what could have easily been a 5-11 or 6-10 and finishing 9-7. We can build on this!

Ol Polly Positive showed up over here. Agreed on one thing.........thank god they actually did finish above .500 so we NEVER have to talk about this again. I know it's a sign of a good franchise to be consistently good but this whole streak just feels utterly meaningless when you don't make the playoffs.

I'm just glad the writers and talking heads can't talk about it anymore.

For the record, I DID say I was disappointed to not make the playoffs so its not all positive. There was certainly lots to complain about this year but the Falcs gutted it out in a season when you got basically nothing out of your best offensive player from 2008 (Turner), had to start Chris Redman for a few games, and had to depend on the likes of Jason Snelling and a patchwork defense to get it done.

I mean shit, at least we aren't the Giants.

All the bleeting Steelers fans' can probably rest easy about Cowher taking the Bills head coaching job...it probably isn't happening. Buffalo sources are saying now that former-Raven hc Brian Billick is in line for the job, and he's been in touch with Mike Tice to be his assistant there.

Maybe if he gets the job he can trade for the love of his life, Kyle Boller.

The real reason the Falcons missed the playoffs: your gay fullback. God loves gridiron football, & hates fags. Serves to reason, then. No playoffs for you!

Charlie Weis to be named OC for the Chiefs. Romeo Crennel might join the staff as well.

Given his previous histories with Haley and Pioli, I think it's a good move all the way around

Seattle Seahawks coach Jim Mora has been fired, the first coach in team history to be let go after one season, and league sources say longtime USC coach Pete Carroll is being targeted as Mora's replacement.

Mora attended a meeting Friday morning with management, at which time he was told by Seahawks CEO Tod Leiweke that he did not win enough games to save his job. The Seahawks lost their final four games to finish 5-11.

Mora was shocked by his dismissal, believing that when he was called to Lieweke's office that he they would be in discussion about the team's vacant general manager's job, Seahawks sources said.

"We've made a tough decision today," Leiweke said in a statement. "It became apparent after conducting an extensive internal audit that a new direction was needed to provide an opportunity for the organization to be successful. Today's decision, while difficult, is part of the process in building a franchise with a new vision in 2010."

Damn Marco, that Jim Mora Era was even shorter than we thought.

Pete Carroll wasn't actually as bad in New England as legend would have it, and he's had a lot of time to think about what he did wrong. Maybe he will have a Bellichik-ian second stint as an NFLHC (if that happens)

Yeah, you called that one Bloor.

Mora was a terrible HC this season. He completely lost his players weeks ago. I was hoping this would happen but didn't think the brass would have the balls to pull the trigger.

I'm not sure about hiring Carroll, though--granted, just a rumor at this point, but seems to be building some validity.

The report is now Carroll to Seattle, 5 years, $35 million. Even if it doesn't work out, player just got paid.

He was beyond horrible - and the worst part is that he kept saying in interviews that the team had improved from last year by virtue of winning one more game (5-11 vs 4-12) - I want to know what games he was watching - at least the Seahawks were competitive in 2008 - they either blew teams out this season or got blown out themselves.

As for Pete Caroll - it will be nothing if not interesting - the thing I'm excited about are all of the assistant coaches it sounds like he has convinced to come here - Guys like Ken Norton Jr and Jeremy Bates

Seems like it is a done deal with Norton Jr and Bates coming along. Carroll allegedly turned in his resignation letter and Bates informed the Chicago Bears he wouldn't be interviewing for the OC position.

VERY happy with the dolphins landing Mike Nolan as DC.

maybe he can help bring B. Marshall on over.

The Buffalo Bills hired Chan Gailey to coach their team?
Mr. I couldn't beat my rival Georgia when I was head coach of the Yellow Jackets, nor could I win a playoff game during my brief tenure as coach of the Dallas Cowboys?
I don't get this one at all. He's a long time NFL assistant who got fired at his last gig when was the OC for the Chiefs. He's never been more than mediocre head coach at any level, with his only success coming at then D-II Troy State in the 80's. There has to be a crap ton of young coordinators, specifically minorities, who would have been a better hire than Gailey. They either didn't want the job or were completely ignored by old Ralph Wilson.
Maybe they should move the franchise and start anew.

Apparently Bill Cowher pretty much got him the job by saying something like this "Thanks but no thanks, Buffalo, but listen, if I was going to come back and coach, I'd have Chan Gailey as my Assistant Head Coach. He's a swell fellow"

To be fair, the guy was a good OC in Pittsburgh and wasn't terrible at Georgia Tech if you are ok with 7-5 and playing your bowl games on a blue field.

And then there's this: Marty Shottenheimer apparently wanted the job but Ralph Wilson wasn't "comfortable" with him. What does that mean? Did Marty get drunk and put the moves on one of his grandkids?
