Hamilton deserved it. Cano had an opportunity to steal it from him in September if he had put up a really strong month in the heat of the pennant race but he was playing through his injuries and put up numbers barely above replacement level for the month of September. I probably still would have put him above Cabrera based on positional value and his great defense but I don't have a big problem with Cabrera being #2. Adrian Beltre was really underrated by voters. He should have been top five.

Hamilton was the first player with at least a .359 avg, 40 doubles, 30 homers, and 100 RBI since Lou Gehrig did it in 1934.

And Hamilton missed an entire month due to injury. Shudder to think what those numbers would have looked like had he not gotten injured...

With at least a .359 average huh? That's a pretty strange and convenient cutoff. My guess is that if he'd played the last month, his counting stats (HR, RBIs, Doubles) would have increased a bit but the average would have dropped a little. There's still no taking anything away from the fact that he had a great year though and deserved the award. Doesn't the fact that the Rangers lost the WS make him a bum though?

it was tweeted by a local sports media guy - now that you mention it, listing .359 is kind of odd...i wonder if it was .355 or .350 that there were quite a few others since gehrig? even so, pretty solid numbers.

Gives me a little more respect for Lee turning down and extra $50M to play for Philly again (reportedly).

Well this run of 13 wins in 14 games has been against 11 teams with losing records....No knock on that...Good teams are suppose to beat bad teams....

Their win over Denver on Sunday was huge and we got Boston and Miami over the next 4 days....There is the test....

but whatever, i have suffered long enough.....Give me a .500 record and an 8th seed and I'll be satisfied this season....I'm not greedy.....Next season, look out! Chris Paul and/or Carmelo!

yeah, this is definitely the brightest things have looked for the knicks since the ewing era

This isn't accurate. My understanding is that the three offers were:

Phillies: 5 years - $120 million
Yankees: 6 years - $132 million with a player option for a 7th year @ $16 million
Rangers: 6 years - $138 million with incentives and an option that vests based on health and/or performance that could increase the package to 7 years and $161 million.

So the Yankees offered the most guaranteed money but it was only $28 million more than Phillies and $2-3 million less annually. Phillies offered the highest annual salary but the least years. Rangers offered a package that could have been the highest if he performed up to expectations.

You could really argue that anyone of those deals was the most attractive or least attractive. He's probably a Phillie because he wanted to be and not because their package was head and shoulders above the others but its not really accurate to claim that he made a lot of concessions to go back there.

I wanted him to sign with NY but had mixed feelings about the long term commitment. It could be for the best assuming Burnett rebounds, CC doesn't opt out next year, and they don't panic and gut the farm system.

Philly fans I know are saying he didn't go to New York because they spit on his wife at Yankee Stadium.

Do with that what you will, i'm just reporting.
