I'm proposing two days for this monster:

Dick's Picks Volume 29 is the twenty-ninth installment of the Grateful Dead's archival live album series. It was recorded on May 19, 1977, at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia, and on May 21, 1977, at the Lakeland Civic Center Arena in Lakeland, Florida. The album contains all of both concerts, except for the encore of the second show, which was "U.S. Blues". Also included are several bonus tracks recorded on October 11, 1977 at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Oklahoma.

More music from this period can be found on Dick's Picks Volume 3 and To Terrapin: Hartford '77.

Dick's Picks Volume 29 is the only "Dick's Picks" album that contains six CDs. The other "Dick's Picks" are two-, three-, or four-CD sets, except for Dick's Picks Volume 2, which is one CD.

I actually thought we might close with this bugger, but I'm down.

finally finished up #36:

i really liked the dark star, for what it's worth. although it did sink into tedium, it's a mostly engaging jam, and i just prefer the restrained endless-beginningless melodic space that it forces them to play in. especially weirdly sandwiched between mexicali (though this is the end of d2) and (less weirdly) morning dew. this is what i like best about the dead: the short, tight, often bluegrass-y songs against epics. overplay of the mid-range jams that always end up in the same place, scripted – china cat, sugar magnolia, here – is where i get bored. case in point, he's gone from d4 at folsom slays the typical he's gone->truckin' from the main event. phil nixing drums with a bass solo in its stead, into a monster other one is welcome even this late in the set.

Holy shit am I ever reminded of Jeff Tweedy during 'Peggy-O', he could totally be singing this right now. I honestly never noticed this before.

i've often thought about how great a wilco cover of a jerry tune could be. the similarities are pretty clear especially on these last couple wilco albums.

I made it through the Terrapin at the beginning of D3. I wish they hadn't put that Filler in there: it really fucked up the excellent flow of the Atlanta show which I am really, really enjoying. Some crisp, reserved playing and Jerry seems really into it. Having been to this venue many times and thinking about it while I listned, I'm sure they were jazzed by the intimacy and uniqueness of the room. Hard to even imagine them playing there since I only ever saw them in an arena or stadium.

I made it through d1 and 2 yesterday, on d3 now. Long drive to Toronto tonight, so this will be laid to rest today, on schedule.

I loved d1, but d2 was a bit lost on me. I agree with Bloor on the filler interruption.

Pretty rough Terrapin, by comparison, and surprisingly one of the few we've listened to yet. No kidding about the jazzy Playin'. I think it had something to do with the lacklustre Terrapin, you can hear em drop right down into a groove at the start of the jam. Not sure I felt it, but nice for a change, I guess.

Looking forward to that d4.

Even though very lackadaisical, the UJB->The Wheel->China Doll is very nice for a change.

Kind of abruptly ends at 7:50

This is kind of snarly 'New Minglewood'
