Well, the french beer is on the other camera.

St Peter's - Cream stout
Image
I always like the packaging, if I'm not crazy about the beers. This one was better than some others, because (I think) roasting malts to a dark color adds a lot of flavor without requiring a ton of skill. It was pleasant, a little on the mild side, and perfectly enjoyable, though certainly not a big memorable event. B

Cisco Brewers - Santa's Beer'ed
Image
Christmas present in the fridge from Shiv! And we got a big'ol motherfucking tree yesterday, so what better occasion to bust out a santa-pun-themed beer? It was good, too. Spicey, medium roast malt, and turned out to be a great precurser to the mulled wine Neuro brought over later. Like all their stuff, it tastes peculiar, minerally, and kinda good. It's hard to explain, and I continue to attribute it to the water they use out there on the island, for lack of a better explanation. B

Drinky, nobody in the US really makes a german weizen, not like they do. Ours are either sweeter, stronger, hoppier, etc. None of the subtlety, the malts are a little different, and I don't know, maybe just a difference in the water or something. But I've never had anything from here fool me into thinking it might be from Germany - you can always tell, right away.

I didn't expect it to taste just like the Germans, and there are a handful of American hefe's that I like just fine (Sierra Nevada's Kellerweis, mainly). It's not so much that it doesn't taste the same. If anything I was looking forward to whatever twist a good American brewery might put on it. (And being able to get it in a six pack.) But it just isn't good.

Hey, shiv didn't like it, either.

Yeah I getcha, I wasn't trying to tell you that you did or didn't like a beer. Just making a side observation, ie "nobody in the US makes a hefe that tastes like the germans for some reason." In my case, I do like the german flavor better, fwiw.

this was pretty good. i'm not much of a stout guy but i liked this. i can't really remember much of it though since i've since moved onto those weyerbacher imperial pumpkin beers.

Image

i've had the former a couple of times in the past month and just found the latter. they're both good but not great beers. maybe kind of a step above harpoon. both are 6 packs and are around $10 though so they're kind of a good deal.

got this in my fridge. am. very. excited.

I haven't watched that yet, but he came off as a pretty cool bro in the Beer Wars documentary.

Entertaining show. I feel as though I should be drinking a beer while watching it, though.

this has potential to be a good program but i'm afraid DSC will spin this into a reality show about the two guys running dogfish. i'm hoping it will venture into brewing science than just their marketing forays & ensuing hijinks.

I would watch that happily, if I had cable. Maybe it'll make netflix.

TOTALLY Agree. I am sucked into buying one of these every year when I am in TX. They're not bad per se, but merely OK.

Cool new label. They keep changing them every few years, I see.

I love the Skal.

Oh and Shiv and I made a beer run to a good local store (new to me) so I got a shit ton of goodies. Holding off on drinking, though, until after the wife's fast / cleanse thingy... don't feel right making her watch me enjoy myself.

I tried alot of beers last night after going to the First Friday Art Walk, most of them were local brews without Beer Advocate or Rate Beer pages, but here is the list.

Zulu American Pale Ale from Schilling Bridge Brewery

Mochochino Milk Stout, the Empyrean Brewery Beer Quest winner brewed by a friend
Quote:
The beer is a Mochachino Milk Stout, brewed with cacao nibs, Cultiva free-trade coffee, vanilla beans, and black strap molasses. Milk Stout (aka Sweet Stout) is a sweeter version of a dry stout due to the use of lactose sugar, which is unfermentable to the yeast.

Spezial Ungespundetes from Brauerei Spezial

Weyerbacher Mike

Weyerbacher November

Grand Cru from Upstream Brewery

Summit Horizon Red Ale

I heard great things about their stouts. New local up in NH, a guy who made beer for friends forever and finally incorporated. He's already had 2 interns (?!), this is an offering from #2 on his way out. It was... not good. Cloudy as fuck, sweet, sour, ... it tasted like an unfinished beer. Like 1/3 fruit, 1/3 sour mix, and 1/3 tap water. [sad trombone] C-

Rogue - Yellow Snow IPA

I snatched this up because I love the mini fridge kegs. I drink a lot of beer, and I hate lugging all the bottles out to the recycling. This is a good IPA (thank Beer Jebus), but when I did the math, it's still $3.57 per 12oz glass. Why in the FUCK did they charge so much for it? I'm halfway through it, and there are no Dalen-style Bro's in the building to help a duder out in finishing it, so I'm on my own. My building is much more Sauv Blanc than Stout. A-

Yep. I'm all for yeast still in the bottle, but this was... chewy.

Love the mini kegs, too. I think you can make it through, Cap. I BELIEVE.
