A "Gypsy burger" sounds like it would be made with stolen beef, wild, found by the side of the road greens and topped with the cum of the homeless

sorry for the delay, fulks...this week was all :domokun: so i was a little late getting around to a lot of things.

THE GYPSY

Lots of promising ingredients here: mozzerella and parmesan cheese, peppered bacon, cucumber slices, red onion, tomatoes, beef patty and ranch dressing on a toasted roll. As Mami Tootska used to say...I chirikleski kul chi perel duvar pe yek than.

Image
RIP Mami...dza devlesa :(

Lo and behold, our first wine pairing. At nearly 1/3rd of the way through, the burger-n-beer combo is getting a little tired. Who says we can't class this shit up.
Image

Requiem-For-A-Dream-sized cucumber. This is what happens when you send Shera out for vegetables.
Image

This number required ranch dressing, so as a good foodie I tried to avoid the standard Wishbone/Paul Newman cum of the homeless and instead opt for Brianna's Homestyle, which had an ingredient list that was for the most part recognizable except for that sneaky-ass "natural flavors" which we all know is a chemical compound made in a factory somewhere off the New Jersey Turnpike.
Image

Our lil' Gypsy, with a side of wilted spinach and garbanzo bean salad made by Shera.
Image

Shera went over this earlier, but we may be desensitizing ourselves and succumbing to our own consumption. For all the ingredients that I should have liked, everything was overpowered by an enormous and obnoxiously present meatwad, sitting smugly like a gold capped tooth in an otherwise decent smile. Might be time to turn this wagon-train around from the billyg philosophy of beef stardom and go for the LOST ensemble cast approach.

ImageImage
Score: 2 gypsy curses, for being a decent burger but lacking in any discerning awesome sauce that would set it apart a la The Miss Daisy. I was really hoping for a lot more tangy zest considering the ingredients, but what I got was a bloated belly from a mediocre sandwich. I feel like I got....oh, what's the word...

I'm telling you, this whole thing would have been greeted much better if you had gone for tzatziki over ranch. For all the imagination they put into these things RANCH is like a turd in the punch bowl here.

No, I understand you're making them just as the recipe says, I'm actually faulting the recipe people (but I'll take it all back/write a chapter in your book about how "you learned to appreciate the rules by making all the burgers to a T...that sometimes playing by the rules disappointed us with the burger. We knew the Gypsy would have been better with the famed Greek Yogurt and Cucumber concoction known as tzatziki sauce....but in an America where rule breakers abound, and are celebrated, we felt we owed it to ourselves to be true...and we are all the better for it."

I had one of the best burgers in my life last Sunday in Turner Valley, outside of Calgary. The Chuckwagon Cafe.

The burger itself was 100% home-raised beef, no hormones or steroids and in the burger, no filler at all. It was their 'Home Burger', cheesy beefy bacony goodness, buttery bun, hints of garlic, pepper, onion, mushrooms. Lots of juice on the plate. I also picked up 4lbs of ground beef to try and recreate the magic at home.

I found out about this place via a blog post about a search for the best burgers in southern Alberta. Here's a couple of more pics from that post as they're much better than mine.

They were fresh and delicious. Ordinarily I'm not a big fan of shoestring but these were superb.

Thats what I was thinking too. I mean I love teh beef, but these burgers are all about the extras which look overshadowed by that paddy you got going there.

I haven't made my way down to that place yet, but that burger definitely looks worth the trip.

I honestly can't recommend it enough. I actually see myself taking the 2hr trip for lunch before the snow flies.
