You probably know that Warren Haynes (Gov't Mule, Allman Brothers) has a new solo disc out. But did you know he released one way back in '93? I didn't, but as luck would have it, I stumbled on a Japanese pressing of it the other day.

Quote:
Produced by Chuck Leavell, Warren Haynes' first solo album is a refreshing change of pace from his work with the latter-day incarnation of the Allman Brothers Band. Although the feel of this album is undeniably classic rock, with much of Free's bluesy swagger, it is also vaguely reminiscent of '80s rock at times (check out the Mr. Big-esque verse to "Fire in the Kitchen"). The focus on Tales of Ordinary Madness is clearly on Haynes' songwriting chops. For the most part, the songs on this record are tight and concise, focusing on immediate riffs, gritty vocals, and cool arrangements to sell them. This, however, is not to suggest that Haynes has stopped tearing it up with his guitar, and he amply demonstrates why he is one of the most lauded straight-ahead rock lead guitarists of the '90s. The various bands that back up Haynes are all quite good, and notables Bernie Worrell and producer Leavell both make guest appearances on keyboards. Standout tracks include the mid-tempo "Tattoos and Cigarettes," which is a great showcase for Haynes' under appreciated vocal talents. The smoky "Blue Radio" is also notable for the artist's emotive singing. In fact, the most exceptional thing about Tales of Ordinary Madness is his vocal performance, the overall impact of which stays with the listener far longer than any particular song or hook. There are some slow moments on this record, but it is great party music, and fans of Haynes' work with the Allman Brothers Band would surely be interested in this recording.

Bon Accord - True Delusion EP - 2011

Image

Free download here: http://jukboxr.bandcamp.com/releases

BIRP review
It seems like it wasn't too long ago I was trying to force anyone who would give me an ear to listen to the then newly-released Honeydew EP from Hackney's Bon Accord. It was everything that the dying days of summer were made for; warm, soft, shoegaze-infused dreampop. While all of those aforementioned tags can be thrown around a lot in the current climate of new music, I'm not sure anyone embodies the burgeoning dreampop scene more than Bon Accord.

After dropping his Dayliner 12'' through the startup JUKBOXR label back in March, he didn't waste much time in spitting out something new with the True Delusion EP he just sent on over to us. True Delusion is a continuation from his work on Dayliner as he manages to craft ethereal electronic pieces that never threaten to become too synthetic. It was a quick reminder that I was seriously missing some new Bon Accord in my life.

Lambchop :: Turd Goes Back

Quote:
Grapefruit Records, a subscription-only record club founded by Simon Joyner and Ben Goldberg, will release a limited, vinyl-only LP of rare early Lambchop recordings. The early recordings, entitled “Turd Goes Back: Essential Tracks from Secret Secret Sourpuss & Big Tussy,” will join Richard Youngs, L. Eugene Methe, and 200 Years, as part of their 2011 series subscription-only Grapefruit Record Club.
Annual subscriptions include four quarterly released full-length LPs and a deluxe, hard-shell box to house the series of records that make up that year’s roster of artists. USA, Canada, and International subscriptions are available.
Lambchop is fortunate to be included in the list of 2011 releases because, as stated on the website, “the only qualification required for artist participation is that both Ben and Simon love the music.”
From the Grapefruit Records website:
Over the past twenty or so years, Lambchop has proven again and again that they are one of the best American bands to ever assemble. They never repeat themselves, yet always maintain a utterly distinct and singular style to songwriting and performance. I remember it was late at night the first time I listened to their album How I Quit Smoking, and as I fell asleep, the song, “Theone” drifted into my dreams. Once I awoke, I searched the record for the song and stood dumbfounded in a semi-conscious state as its beauty washed over me. Surrealistic qualities weren’t an isolated experience, I soon realized, and I came to understand that it’s the unique perspective and particular quirks of Lambchop which define the band most succinctly. This LP is an assemblage of Kurt Wagner’s early recordings, taken from two rare cassettes, and I swear you can hear his emerging talent bleeding out of the speakers.
Year One orders can be placed between Thanksgiving 2010 and Valentine’s Day 2011.
Tracklist
1. The Fish Fry
2. Daktari
3. My Cliche
4. They Were made For Each Other
5. Que Sera Sera
6. Came Home Late
7. I Megalomaniac
8. Old Dog Blue
9. Soaky In The Pooper
10. Music City Shits
11. All Over The World
12. Oh Nooooooo
13. Fa-Q
14. The Backyard Hoop
15. How Many Times Did They Play Iko Iko ?

and yeah that Buddy Holly compilation is all over the place, I don't typically do this - but I might delete the ones i don't care for and keep the ones I really like, cutting it from like 18 tracks to 10-12 or so

i was not expecting the cee-lo one to be that good
