LSU beat the Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl, Cotton Bowl, and Peach Bowl winners. NUTS.

Also, good job Pitt. You may have totally fucked me in my office pool.

They should lose D1 status after that performance today.

Sucky games are one thing, but ten years of sucky games, poor attendance and low TV ratings are a trend.

I think it will be close game and will come down to one play like the last one.

Least interesting mythical national championship game in a long time. Prediction: LSU by a safety.

Why? Because we all know that those 70-66 games we've been watching recently are SO much more interesting? Those are like watching the NBA, just tune in to the last two minutes and you haven't missed anything.

It's probably a proximity thing, but I'm pretty egg-cited for the game. Does part of me think it should be like baseball was for years where the only time the WS teams meet is in the actual championship? Sure, but can you really make an argument that these aren't the two best teams in football? Look at what the third best team IN THE DIVISION did to K-State.

I like defense as much as the next guy, but I think this comment about SEC quarterbacks by ESPN Pac-12 blogger a few months back pretty much hits the nail on the head:

Ted Miller, ESPN PAC-12 Blogger Wrote:
TedCapstoneCrazy (SEC country) Could you please explain to the PAC-12ers on here what it means to play defense. They seem to think you didn't play well if you don't score 40 points and give up 35.

Ted Miller (4:00 PM) I will do that if you will tell your SEC teams to recruit a QB that wouldn't be sitting with his hat backwards on a Pac-12 bench wishing he was good enough to signal in plays.

Oregon would have been a more entertaining rematch. Oklahoma State could give LSU a competitive game and would be much more entertaining.

I like good defense (I had a pic of the Fearsome Foursome on my wall as a kid and I was most valuable defensive player on my HS FB team). But the first game was a fucking snoozefest and I have no desire to see the sequel. SEC is the strongest conference in the country, it isn't even close, but the kind of football is often yawn producing.

In general, yup. Though I think Cam Newton would have prolly started in th PAC 10-12

I think it's more of a result of a different style of play. Granted, I'm not saying that Jordan Jefferson or Jarrett Lee could light up defenses the way the Lucks or Weedens of the world would. I think you need to look at how many points we put up against everyone except Bama, though. Close to a 40 ppg average against the competition that we faced, including the winners of all of those (BCS) bowls that Tanner mentioned.

And Eli Manning, Peyton Manning, Matt Stafford, Tebow, anybody who played at Florida in the 90's and dozens of other SEC QB's.

Wait, you mean Matt Leinart andMark Sanchez aren't leading playoff teams?

The best PAC QB in the league is Rodgers, and he went to Cal.

And if you want to see OSU v LSU, go look at the game tape from that UGA game. LSU's and Special Teams would grind them up. And Bama's D is #2 in the nation. There's an argument to be made that a team that doesn't win it's division/conference shouldn't be playing for the MNC, but the goal of the BCS is to play #1 v #2 and that's what's happening.

1. Oregon would not be a good rematch. Oregon runs around the PAC-10 because they're that much faster than the rest of the PAC-10 defenses. In the first game, as soon as James or any other skill player got the ball, they were immediately tackled by a LSU defender who could run with them all day. It would have been another double digit loss, which I can't see as entertaining.

2. I don't think the rematch will necessarily be played the same as the first Bama game. Both coaches played it really really conservative on offense. I don't think they'll have the same game plan this time. So this one could be more exciting. But I found an overtime game with several great plays (the Reid interception was as good a play as you'll see) to be exciting.

3. OK St wouldn't have been a good game either. I've seen a lot of LSU football. Any team, even DII, can play with them for quarter and maybe even two. But LSU's running attack just exhaust the other team's D and we blow them away in the 4th. Only Bama had enough talented bodies on D to keep up with LSU. Bama is the only team that would be competitive with LSU for 4 quarters.

4. SEC has plenty of QBs. I'd guess that there are as many SEC qbs in the NFL as PAC-10. They just play against defenses where you have to throw into tight spaces under pressure. Lot different.

For the record, I wanted to play OKST, just because I thought someone else deserved a shot. I don't like a second bite of the apple. Bama had their chance at home. And I hate Sabatron 4.0 and their fans' sense of entitlement.

Plus Alabama has the best chance of beating your team.

This is asinine. This is what it's come to? Criticizing SEC QB's who play against the best D's week in and week out?

I'll say that the current crop of SEC QB's isn't as strong as other years but there are 8 or 9 teams who would take Aaron Murray right now. The league also had a large number of underclassmen start this year. Also remember that even though Stanford has Andrew Luck right now, they haven't had a QB of note since John Elway. The only 2 PAC-12 schools steadily producing QB's right now are Oregon and USC (Aaron Rodgers being the exception).

Also, who cares if Bama continues to put out a "game manager" QB. That's all he has to do is not lose the game. The Defense will win it. We've seen it twice now against Oregon with Auburn and LSU in the last year. Cam was better than Lee/Jefferson but Auburn's D last year wasn't even in the Top 5 statistically in the SEC and still held their vaunted O under 20.

Jeez... (cue Charlie Daniels), you southern boys got a little defensive (irony) real quickly.

1. Of course SEC is the strongest conference in the country, no question. Has been for a long time.
2. Of course SEC has good QB's... at one point 10-12 years ago SEC had more QBs in NFL than Pac 10.
3. In general, the kind of football played in the SEC isn't really entertaining, if you like the 21st century.
4. Bama and LSU repeat doesn't realy entice me. I am pulling for LSU but may not even watch.

Or the NFL (its closest comparison)

And I'm not sure pointing out the ignorance of others can be considered defensive.

I'd take Aaron Rogers, Drew Brees, and that QB in New England that I hate style football over Tebow/or Lombardo smash mouth. So I think, again, you've created a straw man to burn and defend.

the biggest problem with the championship game is that i've already moved on from college football. all my teams are out, ive seen these two teams play before. the nfl playoffs are in full swing, the nba is rolling. its on a weeknight. lots of factors going against me having any interest in this game. fuckin bcs.
