The Ian Mckellan episode is another good one.

I wonder if they ended up getting Leo for the finale after Jude Law backed out.

That was the season one finale, with Patrick Stewart. The episode ends with a wide shot of the Gervais and whatever-her-name-is walking on a lot and there's a huge billboard of Jude Law in the foreground.

The season 2 finale had someone named Jonathan Ross.

Jude Law was supposed to be in the second season but backed out at the last mintue so they were scrabbling to get someone else. They posted a little video of them trying to get ahold of Leo's agent. It was quite comical.

There's a suprise guest other than Jonathan Ross (talk show host in the UK) whose face is blacked out during the preview for the finale.

The Ian McKellen episode was great, especially the gay-was-married dude.

"I was living a lie and she knew it. Now I'm able to go out and enjoy cock guilt-free! yummy yummy yummy yummy"

and Darren's face when he was watching that girl give Andy's friend her number.

That was the first season. That video was on the season 1 DVD set.

Here's the news story, from March 2005, way before season 2: http://www.bbc.co.uk/comedy/news/2005/03/21/18096.shtml

SPOILERS, Highlight or squint to read:

It's Robert DeNiro.

Great season finale! The whole running gag with that 5th grade erotic staple: the nudie pen! That exchange Maggie had with her date's parents regarding contraception! Hearing "Wouldn't It Be Good" by Nik Kershaw for the first time in 20 years!

Man, I'm gonna miss this show.

Good to know. I rented season 1 and while it was amusing (especially the Patrick Stewart episode), I wasn't super-impressed.

CNN Wrote:
LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) -- The British comedy "Extras" won't return for a third season.

Writer-directors Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, who also star alongside Ashley Jensen, have decided to forgo another season of the BBC2/HBO series in favor of bowing out with a special finale -- the same way they ended their previous show, "The Office."

"Extras" was nominated for an Emmy last year in the comedy series writing category; guest stars Kate Winslet, Ben Stiller and Patrick Stewart also received Emmy nominations. Gervais starred as a hapless actor looking for his big break.
