A tape me & my friends made in the 10th grade of as many versions of "Talk About the Passion" by REM as we could record in 60 minutes.

Highlight is an interlude of me smoking a joint & having a giggling coughing fit and going into a freestyle interlude about Rikki TIkki Tavi the mongoose.

Your score: 0 or 10. I can't decide.

It depends. Am I "opener", "prime time" or "closer"? I usually get stuck with closer, so I'd go with:

Image

Talk Talk, Spirit of Eden

A mostly mellow album, with some moments of real energy (for those few of us not too drunk to still want to get into the music).

Prime time:

Image

Buzzcocks, Modern

A surprisingly good record, considering it was after their golden period. I'd be surprised if a few Obnerianites wouldn't want to hear this, if just out of curiosity.

Bonus is, my copy comes with a second disk which is like a Buzzcocks greatest hits compilation thingy.

"Opener"

Hmmm...strokes chin...

Image

Talking Heads, Remain in Light

A little bit of nostalgia, a little bit of way-ahead-of-its-time groove. I know you're tempted to deduct points for "The Overload" -- seems like a clunker for party time -- but I've actually been to a party, and sometimes, people just need to breathe. And it's short enough that you haven't lost any momentum, plus it makes whatever comes on next sound more energetic.

Hmmm. Talk Talk. While I'm a big 80's synthpop fan and I like them, I think their brand of new wave would be lost on most.

Buzzcocks. Yep. I'd be interested in hearing that. I've been meaning to get them in my collection for some time now.

Talking Heads. Well you can't go wrong there. No complaints from me with that one.

Your score: 7

Oh the sounds of Neubauten, that grand Teutonic noise of of shrieks and scraping metal, a soundtrack suitable for any killing floor or industrial gear fabrication shop.

Your score: C'mon man. You've got to be kidding me.

Wait. Is this the album with The Humpty Dance on it? It is isn't it? And that singer with the fake nose...aw, hell no. And no, I don't care if Tupac's on there either.

A Tribe Called Quest.

This album seems to be very popular choice among hip hop fans. I haven't heard it and personally I really dislike most if not all hip hop but the genre gets a lot of love from fellow Obners and who am I to say that this isn't a classic?

Your score: Okay man. Throw it on. I'll listen to it for variety's sake.

Super Furry Animals. From what I've been told this is their best album. I haven't heard this one yet but I love Rings Around the World. Anyways, I'll bet its good and the choice is bound to be a popular one.

Hmmm. Talk Talk. While I'm a big 80's synthpop fan and I like them, I think their brand of new wave would be lost on most.
Actually, their last two albums "proper" -- Spirit of Eden and Laughing Stock -- are about as far removed from synthpop as...well, let's put it this way, I have a friend who feels they should have renamed the band, it's that different. "Truth in advertising" kind of thing.

Not arguing my score, just wanted to correct some ignorance. If you haven't heard this album and you like post-rock, this was post-rock before rock was even considered worthy to be post- of.

I've been to many parties where Skinny Puppy or Ministry were featured. Granted they were mostly in the late 80's and early 90's, but Cleanse Fold worked just fine.

I'd give myself an 8.4
