I figured that whoever got a single stop would win the game. Texas got the one stop in the second half, and managed to score two TD's in under 6 minutes.

Very impressive, although I thought when they were down 12 that they were done.

Yeah, 30/40 for 267 is pretty lame. Not to mention the best passer efficiency rating in NCAA.

He is everything Mike Vick wants to be.

You bet... Has there been a better championship game ever? VY should be allowed to take the Heisman from Reggie.

My how short our memory is......this was a great game, definitely one of the best National Championship games ever, but I don't know if it beats the Miami vs Ohio State game from a few years ago...

I was shocked to not see Leinart go to the endzone on that last play as well.

As a coach, Pete Carroll makes a great recruiter. To go for it on 4th and 2 and to be stonewalled... not good. How he didn't pin them back with 2:00 left is crazy.

Good call but this was slightly more enjoyable to me, though. Players made plays tonight.

While I agree that it looks dumb now to go for it on 4th and 2 you have to consider that White was picking up over 6 yards a carry all night - 2 yards isn't even half of that - I'm pretty sure that Carroll didn't want to give Vince Young the ball at all because he knew something like this could happen. Vince Young is definitely a bad man.....hope that he works on his delivery though, while he throws for a lot of yards it looks a little shaky.

Mack's players never leave early...and he doesn't have a Heisman...but still

Yeah, I agree. VY was not to be stopped tonite. As far as LenDale, everybody in the stadium knew he was getting the ball, and would be running up the middle. I think they stopped his last run (on 1st down) for about a yard gain also. It took them 3.9 quarters to realize that he will not cut outside...no need to cover the edge like you would with reggie.

Vince Young had an incredible game, and he is an awesome college player. I think his limiations as a passer will be exposed in the NFL. In my opinion he is much more limited in his passing ability than Vick. You can throw stats like passer rating at me all day, but after watching the game, I think he is very limited on the types of the throws he can make. But he was very smart throwing the ball last night and all year. He also throws side armed, which will also be a problem at the next level. But huge props to him because it was him versus USC and he won.

Vince Young orginally wanted to attend LSU, but Saban recruited strictly as a WR and told him that was were his future lied. Saban fucked that up.

This sounds reasonable, but a little bit like he was lucky he played so great all year, but, I still understand what your saying. Damn if he didn't show some professional poise lastnight. If he can have an offensive line in the NFL like he had last night, then there's no stopping him in the pro's.

Vince Young baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad

He needs his own Jeezy remix, "cos e'ry body know Vince Young real street nigga."

That was one of those times when you just let an artist do his work, and you won't be dissapointed. And I think the funniest thing is, no one mentions that USC bit on that last TD being anything but a designed run. Where's your rover? Where's your free safety? That's right HOLDING VINCE YOUNG'S JOCK.

Fuck I wish Shockley had another year to mature.

Some guy on ESPN asked this:

Since Texas beat USC, when do we start analyzing them as the Best of All-Time, complete with lengthy articles and television specials?

If by "we" he means "the marketing department at Sports Illustrated who needs to compile the free Texas Championship Season video to go along with the swimsuit issue sales campaign", the answer would be six hours ago.

Nope... just like we won't see any of this years WS games on their Top 10 games of 2005 special. Some teams "don't market" according to them. Damn coastal biases.

Oh bullshit. The USC crap was overblown to begin with, and we knew it. That's why we aren't hyping Texas the same way.

That was awesome, I thought Texas was definitely done when they went down by 12. I figured USC might even add a touchdown to make it look like a late blowout, but the Longhorns came back and took it home for the Big XII.
We were discussing the use of the option by Texas and USC to some extent and how successful those plays were against these two teams. After that talk, I stand by assertion that the 1995 Nebraska team would have beaten 2005 USC by around 17 points at least.
I think this game beats the 2002 Fiesta Bowl game with OSU and Miami, that game was tarnished by McGahee's injury and the bad Pass interference call.
