I've really gotten into la la. Something about sending out the cds is, in an odd way, kind of fun. I did receive one that was too damaged to play a few songs. I listed it as damaged and was quickly sent another one.

I guess I want to try this out. Anybody who wants a T-shirt, send me a referral or whatever (and make sure you tell me what your name on lala is).

I'm not really looking forward to getting the bill from Lala. I think I've traded about 30 cd's over the last 3 weeks.

sweet. now i can keep some of these instead of trading them in again for someone who's gonna supply me with full artwork.

i have gotten about 25 cd's so far from lala.....in the last batch though, there have been a few who sent only front cover artwork, which irritates the hell out of me...

even though in any part of my description, i said front and back required....

the one major flaw of this site.

yeah it's pretty annoying. any cd's i get without art just go back in the trade pile.

I sent lala an email, asking for any type of reasoning, in when they were developing the site, company, and rules, why theyre wouldnt be an option for users/traders to be able to request full packaging as instead, just requiring front cover artwork.

they wrote back that they'd discuss it.

I just noticed this on the lala site:

How does 20% of each trade reach the artist?

la la plans to create a registry where artists can come and identify themselves and claim ownership for each album they've been a part of. We'll ask for certain forms of identification to make sure the individual is who they say are, and then do a basic check using industry databases. Once registered, the artist will receive 20% of the $1 la la fee everytime one of their CDs is traded. If there are disputes amongst artists over percentages, we will mediate in an attempt to resolve the dispute. If no resolution is reached, the money will go to our 501(c) charitable foundation, which we call the "Z" Foundation. This foundation will focus on providing performing musicians with subsidized healthcare, legal services, and support. For more information on the "Z" Foundation, click here.

that part is kind of odd. let us keep the money until you've created it.

In my profile I have listed that I want all of the cover art and inserts to be included for all trades. I think it's important to immediately send off a message to the person who's sending you a cd to reinforce the message that you must have the front and back covers...

I just signed up and am going to list some cd's soon.
Where in the hell is the "profile"?

And how come I can agree to not send the cover art? That seems weird that i can opt to keep it from the other person.

I want to be able to specify that I require the cover art.

I listed one cd, and it was taken instantly.

I've been in lala limbo for a couple weeks now. I have 85 some CDs that people want, and out of the 65 that I want, none are available.

I can see people have a cd I want in their list, but I don't seem to be able to get it from them. What gives?
I added 22 to my have list, and 2 are already "sold". Doesn't this mean I get credit to take 2 that I want?

Does the system randomly select cd's from my want list if I have credit? How do I get to choose which ones get sent to me? Can I select to take a cd from a user that has the cd listed in their "have" list?

How come I don't have any "coming"?

I have 38 listed, 12 wanted and 3 traded. Why don't I get some? Do I have to wait until my mailing supplies come and I verify my trades?

What do people send when the cardboard digipacks are invloved?

At the time of this comment you only have 16 items on your "want" list, and almost all are titles that are relatively popular and/or in high demand. Some haven't even been released yet. There are probably many others who want the same CDs on lala - some of these members have been around longer and are probably first in the queue if they've established themselves as relaible traders...and that's assuming people are willing to give up those CDs in the first place. Many users list CDs on their "have" lists that they have no intention of ever giving up.

There is no way to trade directly with a particular user. Requesting a CD from someone's profile page won't guarantee anything.

You can't choose which "wants" you would like to receive first, but older major label albums or just plain crappy albums tend to ship quickly - in other words, you'll probably get that "Swingers" soundtrack and Weird Al soon.

My advice? Add at least 100 more CDs to your "want" list and beef up your "have" list if possible.

I know I've received digipacks from other members, but now that I have to send one I can't cram it into the envelope. Any suggestions, obners?

I usually eat the additional cost and send 'em in a padded envelope if I need to send really big digipacks or multiple discs. The redesigned envelopes are pretty roomy, though, I don't have to do this very often.

I figure for an extra 80¢ or whatever, it keeps me well-stocked in trading karma: the recipient is always thrilled to get the whole package intact and on my end, I have yet to get a scratched disc and only one gone missing out of 86 received CDs.

Thanks for the tip. In order to get the address you have to type in the envelope id number. Do you then just pitch that lala envelope then since you're using your own?

Why would someone list cd's in their "Have" unless they want to trade it?

So, If none of the cd's in my want list become available, or I never get high enough in the que, I could theoretically just send out cd's and never get anything in return?

I can't even think of 100 cd's that I remotely want to add to my want list.

I'm sure I could beef up my have list a little by digging a little deeper in my collection. This makes me want to come through the dollar bins to beef it up. :P

Is there a way to add a cd that isn't listed in the system? I have about 15 discs that didn't come up in my search.

Because they have them? :) Trades received from other people are automatically added to your "have" list, and some people just use their "have" list as a sort of personal CD database.

Correct. You are blocked from sending out additional titles if you haven't received any lately, but it's possible (though unlikely) to never get anything in return.

Well, enjoy getting very few CDs.

You can send a request to the lala folks to add it.
