Well, SHIT! This FUCKING SUCKS!!! I guess this is going to end up shriveling down into yet another minimally-attended Obner event. Even jagged's not making it this year.

I give the fuck up.

Well, how about this... I'll come to SXSW if you either A. find me a cheap place to live (and pay my security deposit) or B. start paying the other half of the rent in my current apartment.

Not everyone has disposable income.

I realize there are extenuating circumstances that prevent a person here and there from going, but it just seems like nobody ever cancels out of Coachella or Bonarroo or CMJ, or any of the other similar events. yet, every year tons of people say they'll come to SXSW, and it ends up just being shiv and us Texas dorks.

The really frustrating aspect in all this is that those total loser Anime boards with people so inept they can barely make it out of their house still manage to pack 'em in whenever they stage similar events. I probably just care more about Obner than I should.

I should add, I'm not pissed at any one person, just frustrated with the whole fucking situation.

sorry kids - official decision, i'm not going to sxsw. reasons being, i'm considering moving out of la which is like 75% for sure... after a lot of thought over the weekend and with all that's been going on, i need to do this and this my opportunity to what i've been wanting to do.

Why not move to...AUSTIN???

That would be the perfect solution!

no offense to any austinites here - i'm not a texas-type gal. anyway, the opportunities for me are in NY. and NY is where i've been wanting to try out for a really long time.

I'm in still, and bringing an NYC pal and monger apprentice along with.

Don't despair, FT. Our numbers may be small but our ambition cannot be measured.

We'll come correct and make the board jealous again, believe that.

Here's a question... will SXSW debauchery bring Colin back out of the snatch-laden woodwork and get him to talk to us again?

I'm beginning to think some chick has him tied up in her basement.

If so, I'd wager it's not exactly against his will.

I think the guy's just tied up (heh) w/ work, bands, caving and general all-purpose mongering. And I don't know if they got the Internet situation at the house fixed up, so that's a limiting factor to dorking it up around here.

I was figuring it started off fun and then got WIERD. Like maybe he's somebody's gimp.

For the record, Bob, I thought I'd share a SXSW daydream of mine.

First, I trade in the Lil' 500 That Could for a nice new Kawasaki Z-750 sport tourer loaded with hard bags and heated hand grips (the money for which just having materialized out of thin air).

Then, I'd load a pair of jeans and some t-shirts into the bags, along with a few local brews, kiss the completely-not-pissed-and-totally-understanding wife, and start driving south at a slightly higher than legal rate.

Monger, take pictures, hear 4,000 new bands, meet all you fine fine people in person, see my sweet Phil-n-Deena again, load up on good BBQ, head home, in that order.

...ahhh. That'd be an awsome week. Better even if I could take the wife, and somebody would just take care of our work and classes and dogs for us, and pay for all of it.

As with most great plans, the devil's in the details. Fear not, Cap'n. We'll carry you in our (oft-drunken) thoughts... and provide copious dispatches to make you and the others suitably jealous/regretful.

Bring the First Mate, have her scout locations and do market research for expanding her Madison flagship store into Austin, and WRITE IT OFF! Let Uncle Sam foot the bill for your SXSW shenanigans!!!

I thought you were considering moving to Austin. Lots of mailboxes to fill, buddy! And probably an easier transfer to pull off than Newman's ill-fated NYC-to-Maui attempt.

The "snatch-laden woodwork" functions in an almost identical capacity to a Roach Motel. Think about it...

fyi y'all.... even though I can't go, my sister WILL be going to SxSW this year, and I've put her in touch with our very own FT. If she ends up meeting all y'all, you BEST be nice to her, otherwise I'll be putting the hurt on you. ;)

Hey, if you can't get the real deal, the next best thing is her cool older sister, right? ;)

I like Austin but don't think I could take the heat during the summer.
